Pawlan - El Nido Resorts Apulit or Lagan

Hi All - does anyone have any knowledge/experience of these 2 resorts? My husband and I are looking to go for 5 nights in Dec 2012. We'll be coming from Manilla and we'll be going back to Manilla to catch our flight back to the US.

We are looking for relaxation, under-stated luxury, water sports (ie: sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, etc...) and hiking/rainforests. We don't care much about night life and as long as we can get a good bottle of wine and fresh seafood, we are pretty happy as far as dining goes. We also love a long stretch of beach to walk/jog in the morning and/or early evening.

Which of these 2 do you recommend in terms of cost (bang for the buck), getting there, promotions/discounts, ambiance, feeling of "seclusion" from the real world, etc....also, is Dec a good time to go?

I know there's another even more luxurious property opening but I'm not sure it'll be ready in time for our visit.

If you have any other recommended resorts in the area, that's great too.

Thanks.

I believe elnido resorts the company owns both apulit and lagen islands along with miniloc. Apulit is the newer area they acquired. I've been to lagen and was happy withh the accommodations there. Peaceful and contemporary. The package for our lagen trip included meals and fun activities like kayaking, snorkeling, fish feeding, hiking, sunrise and sunset viewing 3 meals and plane fare from manila to el nidi islands. Lagen resort doesn't have a very long stretch of beach as i recall but throught the days you stay there, you can take resort boats to any of their islands including Apulit, miniloc and a couple of islands for day trips where ther are no rooms for overnight sleeping.

We went in July but Dec should be pretty ok also. Our stay in lagen island was very enjoyable. I believe elnido resorts is the most luxurious affordable place unless you want to go to amanpulo which is reportedly where brangelina visited.

Make sure you don't go to other low cost "el nido" resorts as it may be confusing. Here's the link the place we stayed at http://www.elnidoresorts.com/elnido/
