Need your advice on Taipei and day trips from Taipei.
Hi,
We will have a stopover in Taipei on the way from Cambodia to the States in the end of March.
We have never been to Taiwan and are thinking of staying in Taipei for a few days. Our plan is to explore Taipei and take a day trips from Taipei to explore the area around Taipei.
As of now, I am thinking of 4 full days in Taipei and take a day trips to:
- Wulai;
- Yingge and Sansa;
- Yangmingshan National Park;
- Danshui and Bali with possible hike to Yinghan Peak.
Total: 8 full days.
Did I miss anything?
Thanks. Lev.

Hi thursdaysd,
The link you gave me is "Typhoon on Taiwan". This particular publication says nothing about Taronko Gorge.
But after I read your post I did noticed a link to Taronko Gorge at the top right corner of the publication. You should have given me the link
https://mytimetotravel.wordpress.com...-taroko-gorge/
not the one you gave me. Anyway, sorry that I hurt your feelings. It was not my intention.
Taronko Gorge is not far from Taipei and seems as a great place to visit.
Thank you very much for sharing this info with me.

I have added Taroko Gorge to my itinerary - a great addition. I am honestly surprised that thursdaysd is the only one who responded to my post. It seems to me that Taiwan is not a popular tourist destination..

Few people on this board have been to Taiwan, which is why I responded, even though I am traveling.
Glad you find the blog useful, anyone can subscribe.
You are still not reading carefully, I didn't say TaiWan, I said TaiNan. It's a town in the south of Taiwan.

Hi thursdaysd,
I did notice that it was Tainan, but Tainan is more than 300 km from Taipei and I was actually planning to stay in Taipei and take day trips from Taipei. That's why I did not include Tainan in my itinerary. Where are you now?
Have a great trip!

Taipei does not have a lot of sights; three days is enough. For day trips, I found Yangmingshan a waste of time, and Danshui marginal. The best, by far, is Yehliu.
As noted, Takoro Gorge is good. Tainan is more interesting than Taipei. A good route is to continue by train down the east coast from Tokoro Gorge and around the bottom to Tainan. Spend a few days there then pick up the west coast bullet train. Stop in Taichung and rent a car to visit Sun Moon lake and the awesome mountain road from there to Alishan. Then continue back to Taipei.

Here we go!
We finally finalized our trip to Taipei in late February as a stopover from Cambodia.
We will arrive to Taipei around 3:30PM and will check in at the hotel probably between 5-6PM.
We will stay in Taipei for 6 nights (5 full days) Flying out of Taipei on day 7 around 5PM.
Planning to buy the EasyCard for public transportation.
Here is my itinerary:
Day 1 (Saturday). Arrival to Taipei. Free time after 6PM. Longshan Temple and Huaxi St. Night Market OR if a good visibility Taipei 101 and dinner at Taipei 101 food court (first floor) or many of the Warner Bros restaurants.
Day 2 (Sunday). National Palace Museum, Zhishan Garden, Baoan Temple, Shilin Night Market.
Day 3 (Monday). Maokong Gondola to Zhinan Temple first and then to the top. Hiking in the area, Tonghua Night Market.
Day 4. (Tuesday). Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Raohe St. Night Market.
Day 5. (Wednesday). Yangmingshan National Park, Beitou Hot Springs, either Longshan Temple and Huaxi St. Night Market OR if a good visibility Taipei 101 and dinner at Taipei 101 food court (first floor) or many of the Warner Bros restaurants (see day 1).
Day 6. (Thursday). Presidential Office Building, Tamsui and Bali, Hongshulin, Dihua Street, Ningxia Night market,
Day 7. (Friday). Elephant Mountain trail. To the hotel, lunch and to the airport.
Did I miss anything? Are some days way too overloaded and some not too much?
I was thinking of taking a day trip to Taroko NP by a tour operator, but Tunnel of Nine Turns is currently closed and it is long trip. I have to make a reservation and pay ahead of time and if weather is bad it is just a waste of money. So, I will leave it for another trip to Taiwan or watch it on YouTube. -
