Malaysia 25 days

Hi All,

Wondering if you could help me plan my trip to Malaysia and Singapore for 25 days in December. Leaving on 7th and returning back on 31st. this is my first trip travelling with my wife and two other Friends, we are in our early 30s.

I been reading and doing lots of research on here and other forums, and still not able to make my mind up how am i going to plan this. we will arrive and depart from KL.

Places i have narrowed it down we could visit in 25 days are

KL - 3 Nights

Cameron Highlands - 2 Nights

Ipoh - just pass by or may be 1 night

Penang - 3 nights (is this too much)

Lankawi - 3 nights

Malacca (malakka) - 3 nights

Singapore 4 nights.

Borneo Kalimantan - remaining days - 4-5 days.

how does this sounds, would you change anything on length of stay or even places in the list doesn't worth a visit? or even add a new place to this list?

How would you plan your itinerary based on these places,? Initially i planned to hire a car and make my way to Penang visiting highlands, Ipoh etc. and return the car there, and visit Lankawi,

then take flight to Borneo from either Lankawi or Penang (but then i found out no flights fly direct from Penang or Lankawi). From Borneo i can take a direct flight to Singapore, then from Singapore make my way to KL via Malacca by train.

Also we will be staying in budget hotels most of the time, or even guest houses, in most places, places like Lankawi, singapore may be 4*.

is it better to drive all the way, or arrive at the destination using public transport then hire a car locally to explore?

After seeing many posts here, people are suggesting to visit Terengannu Area? should i def include this area, is it worth a visit? also read that as its monsoon season, this area gets most rain fall, and wet all the time?

Any feedback on this is appreciated. thanks again

Sarm

Your itinerary looks ok apart from too much time in Melaka, maybe one night?

I would not hire a car for you whole stay. Public transport is efficient and cheap (although with 4 of you a car may be pretty economical ?). A car fro the Cameron Highlands is essential and may also be nice to see a bit of Langkawi.

I took the ferry from Langakawi to Penang which made a nice change. The train from KL-SIN is probably the best way to get between the two.

It is the wet season on the east cost so not the best time to visit Terrenganu and personally, I prefer the west coast ( although the diving on the offshore island is pretty good).

Three nights in Penang (Georgetown) is not too much, you could even add another night or two - we spent 6 nights. Stay right in Georgetown, not at the beaches.

In Borneo, you don't want to go to Kalimantin, as that is in the Indonesian part of Borneo, and has difficult connections. You will want to go to either Sabah (fly to Kota Kinabalu) or Sarawak (Fly to Kuching), depending on what you want to do there. You will only have enough time to go to one.

I agree that 3 nights in Melaka is too many.

Thanks guys, really helpful, and much appreciated.

We will make our way down to Cameron highlands by public transport and may be hire car there, is it easy hire by Cameron highlands? Or even take the car down all the way to penang or lankawi but I belive one way drop off is expensive for car hire..

Do they have own Seperste villas or cottages to hire by Cameron islands?

We would then fly to kutching from lankawi not sure if there are direct flights from there, and then kutching to Singapore directly, from there I can make my way down to kl via Malacca?

Are there any interesting activities yoi guys did during ur trip?
Thanks again guys I will report back on my return

There are no direct flights from Langkawi to Kuching, you will need to change planes in KL.

We were in some of the places you mentioned last year. I must say you have gotten good 1 way flight prices. The only thing I might do is skip Singapore(Yes we were there last year for 5 nights & it was not enough) but I might instead while you are in the Northern part of Malaysia go to Langkawi. While we did not make it there (2 nights in Penang) our guide in the Malaka area was from there & told us how beautiful it was
Our guide/driver in the Phuket area was Daj I beleive his e mail is [email protected] He arranged airport pick up laundry done and tours to James Bond Island & where The Beach was filmed.
Have loads of fun
