Japan guide

I'm thinking of travelling to Japan and I would like to hire a guide. Not much interested in cities, but more of the out of the way places.
I have read on this forum how a guide might charge $500.00 per day. This is way over my budget, so I'm asking if anyone can put me onto someone who may be interested in the job as I would be prepared to pay for their accommodation and travel expenses plus a fee.
Thanks, Mike B.

Are you committed to working with a guide? You might be able to visit even some of the more out of the way parts of Japan without one.

No plan for when at present, but 2013 sometime.
Not committed to working in with a guide, but I've done too much travelling alone and I don't like it. So some of the reason for seeking a guide is for the company.
Thanks for the quick responses.

What are you looking for in the guide? you might just ask friends (or friends of friends) who've been to Japan if they'd like to come on a paid trip with you. If I knew you, I'd do it without expecting a fee!

I'm looking for someone who is more into discovering a culture, who likes the more unusual aspects of a country and doesn't need to stay in 5 star accommodation.
I've travelled in Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Bali. I feel the most wonderful people on the planet live in these countries, particularly in Vietnam and Cambodia. Part of these journey's were undertaken with a good friend with the same first name as myself. However, at times I felt unsafe with some of his attitudes and self interest.
I'm giving this information to try and paint a picture of a person with whom I would be comfortable travelling with.
I don't care whether this person is male or female, but just that they can share intelligent conversation, enjoy music (particularly blues, as I'm a musician) likes a bit of walking, a good laugh and doesn't take life too seriously.
