If you had a week in Laos........?

It may be that we have 7 - 9 nights to spend in Laos. Will probably fly into LP & would like one other destination. Vientiane is not jumping out at me. Thinking more to head somewhere north of LP. We love culture, small towns, temples & just seeing the countryside. This would probably happen in late November. We don't want to do a multi day trek. I have read some things about the elephant camp but am not too sure about this although I have read some good reports here it seems the reports are from people with kids?? Any one have any suggestions of another destination & how to divide up the time? Thanks in advance. J

There are several eco-lodges farther north from LP. I'd look at one of those. Sorry, I don't have the names handy.

Yes Kathie. So far I have come across "The Boat Landing" Which may be a bit too far north for such a short trip. The "Lao Spirit" & "Kamu Lodge" Lao is only 30-40 mins from LP Kamu is a couple of hours.

Jules, I know there have been a couple of reports here on Lao Spirit, and I thought I remembered one on Kamu, but I'm afraid I can't find it. The Boat Landing I remember as being the one that seemed most intriguing to me, but it is quite a ways away from LP.

Yes the info I can find about the boat landing seems it is about 10 hours travel. I bet if you can't find the other reports I am not going to but I will try again!

The Boat Landing is on the outskirts of Luang Nam Tha. It is very nice but is 10 hours travel or thereabouts from Luang Prabang. The town itself is a bit ho hum but the surrounding district is lovely.

I would certainly spend 2 days in Vientiane and the rest of the time in LP. There is a lot to see in and do in Vientiane.
If are dead set against Vte, (why?), i would make a trip to Phonsavahn, the Plain of Jars. This is a fascinating area and I am surprised no one has mentioned it to date.

I had 6 nights in Laos in Feb and spent 2 days in Vientiane and 4 in LP, all perfect for us. I actually agree with VB Vientiane has enough to keep you occupied for at least a couple of days.
