Has Anyone Else Had Problems With Bangkok Air?
Hello All,
I was just wondering if anyone else had problems getting their tickets from Bangkok Air. We have planned a trip at the end of October and are using the Discovery Pass to travel between BKK and Siem Reap, and then BKK and Luang Prabang. I made the reservations on July 5 and Fedex'd the certified check according to their instructions. I recieved a call on July 11 saying that they had not yet recieved the money so I checked with Fedex and someone there had indeed signed for it. On July 14, they confirmed receipt of the payment and said that they would be issuing the tickets and that I would recieve them this week. Today (the 20th) I received another call saying that they had not recieved the payment and would be cancelling the reservation. I explained the situation and the woman said that she would check and get back to me, but I am pretty concerned that I have sent a certified check for $1500 to a company that is denying reciept.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any information or other contacts that I can talk to would be greatly appreciated!

The only problem I had with Bangkok Air was my own making. After receiving advice from this board, I decided to add another coupon, so I emailed them over the weekend asking them to contact me before they issued the coupons. Then I sent another cheque by regular post. They fedexed all the coupons after they received the second cheque. However, for the next two weeks, I received emails telling me that they had not received my money. After three phone calls, the emails stopped. I think they started a new file everytime I made a change. I wonder if you have more than one file also. Good luck.

To avoid problems for travel in and out of Thailand (within Asia), use a Bangkok-based travel agent. Not only will you save money (tickets are priced more cheaply if purchased in SE Asia), but, if you are beginning your trip in Bangkok, reputable travel agencies will deliver tickets to your hotel. this sounds like a typical thai company....many things work this way in thailand....it will all work out in the end....
send them an e mail and ask for the situation to be straightened out....i dealt with the nyc office 2 years ago and it was perfect....this year i talked to someone in india....it was also perfect but i hung up on one person there and started again....if the ny office is still open i would call them...i had an american woman help me there

i have bought tickets online with bangkok air for a couple of times and never have problems. i can pay several days later after reserving a seat and just need to print the e-tickets and bring them with me. quick and easy.

To clarify for WSL, the problem, when it arises, seems to be with the discovery pass. This is a series of coupons that must be ordered over the phone, outside the country, paid by cheque/money order, and then mailed to you. Although I was phoning the Vancouver number, I always got someone with a heavy accent. Since I was never sure that I heard them right, I followed up all changes/corrections (name spellings) with emails. Although I always gave my file number, I think this is where my multiple files got created. There is no problem with just booking individual tickets with Bangkok Air over the internet.

I just booked the AirPass a few days ago, and had no problems with the booking agent. He sent the e-mail he promised within minutes of finishing the conversation, and everything seemed in order. I'm supposed to receive the tickets in the next few days; will post then and let everyone know if it worked as it was supposed to.
For what it's worth, we saved almost $100 per person by buying the AirPass. The Siem Reap flights seem to fill up pretty quickly, so we didn't feel comfortable waiting until we got to Thailand before buying individual tickets. I think, if you allow enough time before your trip to straighten out any errors, it ought to be safe to buy the pass from outside Thailand.

I purchased our Discovery Airpass tickets a couple of months ago for next February. I probably spoke to someone in India but I sent the money order to New York. I think no matter which number you call they all get forwarded to a single call center. I received my tickets within a week or so with no problems. If you don't know your exact itinerary they will send you coupons for tickets instead.

I had NO problems with the Airpass, although I must admit I was a bit nervous. About a month ago I called their NYC office--although the person responding sounded foreign. I obtained the schedule I wanted and shortly thereafter received an e-mail. A little more than 2 days latter, I put my money order, along with a letter verifying my schedule, passenger names, and their booking code in the regular US post. I did not include an additional $15.00 for them to fed ex me my tickets--despite their dire warning that they were not responsible if the tickets were lost. Five days later, the tickets arrived in the mail. No hassles whatsoever. Although I must admit that next time I send a non-refundable money order out for $480 I will pay the extra $15 for the peace of mind.

I have traveled with Bangkok Air many times and have not had any problem with their services. One thing to keep in mind: make your reservation via internet by using your credit card in transaction(they are convert from dollars to baths). However, for several occasions I just bought it on site. There are always seats avialable to go places. And I found it to be a lot cheaper than the reservation tickets.

I just paid for and picked up my discovery pass tickets for December/January (Luang-Prabang-Phuket and back to Bangkok) in person at the NYC office. It's a fully staffed office in the Empire State Bldg. They represent a number of international airlines that don't fly into the US, such as Nepal Air, Kenya Air, India Air, Air Zimbabwe, Madagascar Air, etc. Their call center is in Delhi and that's where our calls to reservations are routed. After I made the initial phone reservation, they held the reservations, sent confirming email and gave me a week to make any changes and pay. They needed 1 days notice prior to when I picked the tix up. At the office, there were no problems.
