Full Service Apartments in Hong Kong

Hello,
We are a family traveling to Hong Kong. We travel each year for 3 weeks just after New Years. We have always stayed at the Gateway Apartments which is a full service apartment building above Harbour City Mall.
I have 3 young children, so these accomodations have been great--very high quality accomocations --full maid service, plus a full kitchen and 3 bedrooms.
Unfortunately the Gateway is fully booked this season.
I am hoping a Hk expert out there (Cicerone) knows of another full service apt that can be rented on a weekly basis.
We are hoping for Kowloon--my husband works every day in TSim.
thank you
Joanne

The only serviced apartments I really know are on the Hong Kong side. Try the Pacific Place Apartments at Parkside (in the same complex as the Marriott/Contrad/Island Shangri-La hotels, go to http://www.pacificplace.com.hk/living/live_index.html). Also try Two MacDonnell Road (at http://www.twomr.com.hk). They have a nice location near to Bowen Road. I believe that the Parkview apartments, which is a very nice luxury flat complex up on top of the hill above Happy Valley has some serviced apartments which they let on a short-term basis, go to http://www.hongkongparkview.com. Some of the best walking and hiking in Hong Kong would literally be out the front door, there is a pool, kids play area and grocery store in the complex, and a shuttle to Central. There is also the Convention Plaza in the Grand Hyatt Hotel complex, (go to http://www.conventionplazaapartments.com, you can also rent these through individual owners, try the South China Morning Post newspaper). The Four Seasons has extremely nice serviced apartments as well, they are on the expensive side and IMO a bit small for the money.

Sopmeone told me that The Repulse Bay Apartments also has serviced apartments, and I just looked at the website and that appears to be the case. If you know Hong Kong, and want to be on the South Side, that would be a good choice. Nice location for kids in terms of the beach and close to Stanely, it is green and quiet; not so great if your husband has to commute to Kowloon everyday. Take a look at http://www.therepulsebay.com/apartments/dericou.html.

I was not aware of the Gateway at all, so don’t really have any reccos for the Kowloon side. However, I did find a serviced apartment a few months ago for another poster on Castle Peak Road; I don’t know it at all, but take a look at http://www.goldcoast.com.hk/. Location is a little bit out of the way, but doable with public transport. I recall that she had also found a serviced apartment out by Tolu Harbour in the New Territories, I could perhpas dig up that info. That would be even further out. I would try a Google search for serviced aprtments in Hong Kong or Kowloon and see what that brings up.

You might try vrbo.com, but the last time I looked there, there was not a lot on offer for Hong Kong. I think Lamma would be a great place to stay for 3 weeks (mabye a little cool in Jan), and is a nice commute (to the Hong Kong side anyway), but I don't know that the available flats are that big. A place to start looking wold be http://www.lamma.com.hk/

The serviced apartments in Tolo Harbour are called the Horizon Suite Hotel, go to http://www.horizonsuitehotel.com/eng/index.html. I know the area, and there is some great walking nearby (including the beautiful Bride's Pool walk), and you can bike around the Tolo Harbour. The area is quite built-up, but you can get to green areas quickly, and there are lovely water views. Again, may not be ideal for commuting to TST on a daily basis, probably 30-40 minutes one way.

I wouldn't say Horizon Suite Hotel in Ma On Shan suit your purpose as a 40-mins journey everyday to Tsim Sha Shui is not for everybody, though I live in Ma On Shan area and commute to Wanchai for work.

Shama properties seem to be of a good quality.

That Horizon Suite Hotel is a short walk from the Ma On Shan Plaza shopping center and the KCR-Ma On Shan Rail. It's 14 minutes to Tai Wai, and then switch to the KCR-East Rail, which takes 13 minutes to TST-East. The East Rail portion is very crowded during rush hour, so you'll definitely be standing.

I just was sent an invitation to an opening party for a set of serviced apartments in Hong Kong, these are in Wan Chai and appear to be small studios, but the company has two others on Hong Kong Island, and the ones in Causeway Bay are 1800 sqaure foot 2-bedroom units that might work, take a look at http://www.thev.hk/. I don't know anything about this group or the quality of the apartments. There are no pools and the fitness clubs appear to be private ones at which you would have temporary membership and are located a few blocks away. The area of Causeway Bay in which they are located is quite congested (not really more so than Kowloon, however), but very close to Victoria Park and there is some great shopping in the area. I don't have any idea of the prices. The one in Happy Valley is in a bit quieter location, yet pretty convenient to transport. The area has some good restaurants and is a mix of European expats and locals (the French international school is nearby). Although the map does not show it, the street is on a somewhat steep hill.
