China--airline tickets within China
Hi,
My husband and I are planning on flying from the Philippines to Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, then back to the Philippines. This trip was a last minute opportunity so from what I can tell we don't have enough time to book a tour.
Does anyone have any advice on (a) purchasing airline tickets from the hotel concierge? I've read that this is possible in my Fodor's book, but am a bit concerned and (b) finding someone to give us a city orientation tour in each of our Chinese destinations.
Thank you in advance for whatever help you may have!
Erin

Yes, you can ask the hotel concierge to get air tickets for you, though it'll cost a little more. You can also go to any travel agent in town - ask the concierge to recommend one near the hotel for you.
To get an idea of airfare you may try these two sites. In fact you can even book directly from them:
www.ctrip.com
www.elong.net
For flights from Hong Kong, try this site:
www.tiglion.com
Mind you I have not used any of the above sites to book. But at least they'll give you ideas how much the flights should cost.

rkkwan has it right, as usual. There will be a very efficient travel agent in your hotel lobby or up a few floors, or one that the hotel refers you to. They will be fast and reliable. Unless it is a holiday, ticketing 1-2 days ahead to any of these cities should not be a problem, although you may not get your first choice flight.Their fee will not be much. They can also suggest city tours, but I would ask around the hotel with tourists when you arrive what they have done and if it is worth it. I think these tours are usually overpriced, but I don't like tours. If you have only a short time, the tours may be a good idea, but many of the self guided walking tours in guide books are great if your feet can handle the pavement. Most of the fun I have had in these cities happened when I got lost!

We ordered airline tickets from Beijing to Xian online through www.wacts.com - they delivered the tickets to our hotel desk on the first day of our stay in Beijing.
