Best place to buy North Face jackets?

I'm going to China in April (on a Ritz tour), and my son has asked me to bring home a couple of North Face jackets. He says his friends have gotten them for around $20 in China and that they are the real thing, not fakes. I would like to know where to buy these, and if they really are "real."

Are you going to be in Beijing?

Dazlhan Street Market is cheaper than the more touristy Silk Street but I really couldn't vouch for the 'real' or 'fake' aspect from either place. I looked at North Face gear in Silk Street where they were selling a style i know well, the Hyvent collection. They said Hyvent..but had no vents in the places they should have!

I paid 175 RMB for what I am pretty sure is a fake Columbia jacket at Silk Street but that took 30 minutes of bargaining down from 1250 RMB and walking away 4 times!

Have fun!

Did you get a chance to compare with prices in Shanghai? I've heard that's the shopping mecca for these things. Just wondering.

I'm a flight attendant and work both Shanghai and Beijing. North Face jackets are pretty popular and just about any market will have several stalls to chose from. You shouldn't ever pay more than $25 US but rest assured they are fakes. They look pretty good but like 99.9% of all name brands availible at the markets there they are all fakes. Most folks don't care they just want the name.

Don't be naive enough to think anything you buy in China is real.
The north face jackets are indeed fake. Having said that, I bought one for $20 in 10/04 and I love it. It's very well made and has held up great. I bought it at the Sanlitun market,a 5 story building.Bargain hard!!! This market is a really fun place to shop. The top floor is a great food court, clothing, housewares, jewelry and other items are on the floors below. I saw lots of jackets on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The first floor is packed with knock-off purses, shoes, etc. if you're looking for that. Beijing is a wonderful place, you'll have a great time.

I had heard that the northface jackets are manufactured near Shanghai, and that there are genuine ones available there, that you can tell by making sure whatever you buy has all the American tags. Is this not true? So they really are all fakes, even the tags?
