Bali - recommendation for stay and see

Traveling to Bali with my wife in the last week of July for 5 day 4 nights. Can you please suggest places to stay(approx $250/night) and things to do.
Some criteria that we fancy are:
1. We don't want it to be hectic. Just 1 (or max of 2) places to see or mild activities each day. Examples of activities that interest us are scenic hiking, kayaking/rowing, zip lining.
2. one or two nights - night market, watch fire dancing, road side/beach side local eats.
3. Bali massage
4. Not necessarily interested in temples.

Thanks

You should find some ideas (including light hiking, night market, and massage) in my trip report:

Personally, based on your needs I would avoid Kuta. It has all the shops you would need, but I found it too be very busy like any other city, and not representative of what Bali has to offer. Especially if you're in Bali for such a short time.

Otherwise, I would recommend:

Seminyak as a place to stay - although closeish to Kuta, it is way classier (and more expensive), with some great restaurants and classy bars such as Potato Head where you can watch the sun set on the ocean (book in advance or expect to wait). I would recommend staying here and you could also fulfill your beach-side needs every night.

For your need for activities (rowing, kayaking), you could researching doing day trips to some of the smaller islands around Bali. I went to Nusa Lembongan - a beautiful island about 30 minutes by a smallish speed boat (I wouldn't recommend this boat if you're prone to seasickness - there is a longer 60 minute option if you do a quick online search). I remember they offered some mangrove boat tours. We just explored the island by foot. A bit tricky to get to from mainland Bali, but you can do a daytrip here for some activities (can read more here: https://www.thebalibible.com/bali/island-hopping)

Ubud - further north, this can be a place for scenic hiking. Very hilly with beautiful paddy fields. But you would have to stay there for at least 2 nights in my opinion to get a feel for it, and to make the most of the long-ish journey there (from Kuta our cab took about 2 hours).

Hope that helped somewhat - am sure the other posters here would have better recommendations! Have a lovely trip!
