Back to Bangkok this month!
I finally made the purchase of our Bangkok tickets coming up in less than 2 weeks! Yikes!! I was waiting for certain things to be accomplished before I could actually make the buy. Everything fell into place this morning. Yippeeee!
DS's Thai girlfriend (Lat) has been here for the summer, and is returning on the 21st of August, thus DS and DH will also leave then, flying all together (until NRT when DS DH take ANA and Lat takes Thai. They will arrive at nearly the same time and will taxi into the city together in a van with all of their luggage.
I will follow on the 24th. By then they will be settled into a condo. I don't know if we will stay at Column again, but most probably that will be our final choice. We like the huge panorama suite, but I don't think we can book it for a full 3 weeks stay (too pricey). Their regular 2-bedroom apts are very nice, just not quite so large, and the balcony is MUCH SMALLER. The panorama has a terrace about the size of a basketball court. Hard to beat!
Anyway, so looking forward to our return. This trip puts me over my 1K requirements with United, so I'm happy about that. I still have paid flights coming up this year, which will put me more like 125k but I am having a hard time finding out of that gets me anything. It USED to get me a few more free upgrade certificates. I don't know if that rule is still in effect or not.
Very happy to be returning to Bangkok. I doubt there will be any side trips, but we shall see. I just might take LAT down to Samui or somewhere she has not yet been.

Carol, I'm so delighted to hear that you are headed back to Bangkok! We won't be back in SE Asia until 2017 and I am having withdrawals.
So Brad's girlfriend has been visiting. Does this mean that Brad is getting serious about her? I know, none of my business.
Have a wonderful time and do keep us all posted on your trip.

Is anyone else going to be in Bangkok by the end of this month? Although this is pretty much a business trip, I would certainly entertain lunch or coffee or whatever with another fodorite who might be in the city.
Lcuy, hope you are doing well. Any plans to come to the GTG in Portland?

Yeah! Looking forward to your running trip report. I hope this business trip doesn't interfere with your ability to keep us updated on your shopping trips, restaurant finds, dinner with Thai friends and their gorgeous children, and game night at the Pickled Liver! I've never been to Bangkok, but through your reports I could have sworn I've been there! LOL! Really looking forward...

I'm counting down the days, hours, minutes, and seconds until I'm back in BK for the winter. You beat me back this time Carol as we usually seem to be there at the same time. Smiles.

Carol: I'll arrive about a week after you and stay about a week after you. So, maybe during our overlap of time, we can hook up. I don't know where I'll be staying the first 2 weeks, at the moment, but the last two weeks I'll be at my regular serviced apartment building and you know which one that is. Right now, I'm waiting to iron out the details of the first two weeks, but prefer Rajadamri as it's easier to get to Cotton House.

zoso, Adelphi (soi 8) is a good choice. Great location. I love the food along soi 8, especiallly MONSOON and VIA VAI. Have stayed at Adelphi since its opening in about 2007/2008. The staff there are very helpful also. Breakfast is tasty. They know how to cook my two eggs over easy....
