Angkor guide recommendation?
Greetings,
I plan a 3-day tour of Angkor in January, and I will appreciate a recommendation for a reliable, good-English speaking and knowledgeable guide there.
Thank you,
Marius

I booked a guide through [email protected] via a woman called Ms Kimney. My guide was called (phonetically) Ree. He was brilliant, spoke excellent English, and was a mine of fascinating information. Ree, the driver and the air conditioned car cost me a toal of $40 for the day.

Please send Soeun Saron an email. He's a wonderful guide. I've used him thru a recommendation and have recommended him to others who have loved him. You can probably do a search here in his name and find him. Several people have posted their impressions. His email: Soeun Saron [[email protected]]

There are many good drivers/guides around so don't worry. Here are some others that people have used and been satisified.
Kao Samreth (Sam for short). Very knowledgeable about the temples. Phone number is (+855) 12 763 462, email: [email protected].
Veasna (pronounced Vesnu) - Charning guide. He can be contacted on :
[email protected] or
[email protected]
Tel: (855) 12 482 135
John Teng is excellent and will go out of his way to arrange things, not only at the temples, but for evening shows and outbound transportation. Speaks english well and is polite and punctual. His web site is http://www.angkorservice.com/
Kim Rieng is a qualified Angkor guide, a moto-driver and policeman. That makes him expertly qualified to guide tourists around his hometown and the nearby temples of Angkor in safety. While a moto driver, he can arrange an a/c car/driver if you wish. Telephone: (855) 012 920 554 e-mail: [email protected] Web site h
Chhor Elit is also very good. Can be contacted at [email protected]

It is worthwhile to get a guide thru a recommendation. We got our thru the hotel (Raffles). He was not really knowledgeable, just gave the memorized spiel. Also I did not find him a pleasant person. I asked for a different guide for the following days, but could not get one. So..recommendations are worthwhile.

With just 3 days, a guide is thoroughly recommended. We used John Teng ([email protected]) just a couple of weeks ago and I'd certainly recommend him.

Here's another recommendation for Soeun Saron. We used him and his driver for 3 1/2 days back in January and he was great. He met us at the airport upon our arrival and ten we spent the mornings and afternoons with him before he dropped us back off at the airport on our depature. His english was very good and he was very friendly, funny and knowledgeable. He is also very interested in environmental preservation and can share a great deal of insights on that subject as well. I would highly recommend him for your tour. Have a great time--it is simply an amazing place.

I have tried to contact Ponheary for my trip to Siem Reap during end of Nov 2008. She did not respond to my 2 emails to her at [email protected]. Could you tell me how to contact her? Many many thanks!
