To bad the hotel part of Valhalla is closed, sounds like your kind of spot.

If you go to www.phuket.com, it has a map listing with all the hotels. I don't remember the distance from Kalim Bay to Patong. In any case Tuk-tuks are plentiful and cheap.

Thanks Ryan,

Don't think I am too worried about the hotel part of Valhalla closing, not the kind of "action" I meant - more likely shopping, bars, retaurants etc - I am going with my girlfriend. Any hotels you would recommend (apart from Valhalla)?

Sorry, didn't mean to sound insulting. As you know with Thailand, there are those who are on a "mission"

My wife and I stayed the Chedi. It is a really nice hotel with a great location. However, it is a bit pricey.

I know there are quite a few hotels in and around Patong. I'd definately suggest looking at the website as they have a pretty good map.

Anyway have a great time when you are there. If you get a chance, definately take a day trip out to the Phi Phi Islands.

This site is very good for information

http://www.phuketgazette.net

Plenty of local island information. The bars and go-gos of Patong are easy to find, all around Bangla soi and the Paradise area plenty of night action but gets rowdy after midnight, watch out for drunks and keep clear of any bar fights, don't get involved.

The road from Patong to Kalim is hair-raising to say the least. Patong is the center for shopping and restaurants plus of course the famous bars, clubs, tranvestites, gay bars and everything else imaginable. You will not be far from Kamala beach which has nice restaurants and relaxing. Also negotiate tuk-tuk prices, they will rip you off for as much as they can.
