15 nights in Bali in November Help!!
Hi, We have booked a package to Bali in November, which includes 3 nights in
Sanur and 3 nights in Ubud. How should we split up the other 9 nights? Any suggestions for nice budget 1 bedroom villas or hotels? Should we add a third location? If so, where? How many days in each place? Thanks very much. Joan

I suggest looking for a place in the paddies around Penestanan, just outside Ubud. I went on a hunt one day several years ago, walking all around the area on the paths in the fields and found a little house I've stayed in twice, last time for 3 weeks, definitely not too long. Really wonderful. I suggest having a look on AirBnB which is the online equivilent of walking the paths. You'll find a place you can rent directly from the owner as I did, cut out the middle people, and find a great place for relatively little. Probably with a cook/housekeeper included.

Lots of options. First, I'd extend your time in the Ubud area adding a destination either in or outside of town depending on what you've already booked. Then I'd consider a non-Bali add-on like Lombok or Java. Seminyak is also a good beach destination. How much is "budget" to you?

It's a private house the owner lives in part-time and don't feel I should post her name and email address. However, there are a number available outside Ubud, still walking distance to town, which is why I suggest AirBnB. I've had very good luck with the site. I don't think you'd have to pay anywhere near that much for a small house.

I agree with marmot. Four days in Ubud or more is fine. I assume you want to see areas around the island. Nus, maybe West Bali, volcano region, erct. All can be done from Ubud with a guide for $60 or less a day if you wanted. He was very good and if you tour for 4-6 days you can likely agree to $50-$55 plus a gratutity. The less you spend the likelihood is the quality of the guide or his/her van. His name is Putu or Balifriend. Just search under this Forum and his email will com up. I have it selsewhere,
We found Lombok to be boring but Central Java to be very interesting espectially the region around Yogjakarta and Bobodurur and the other temples, Sultans Palance, the volcano region, the beauty of lake region the interesting small villages off the beaten path that most tourists never get to see and a day trip to Dieng Plateau if you are going in late March-Sept. To get there you fly 70 minutes on Garuda Air and stay at the Phoenix Hotel for $125 including a very good breakfast and tax for a Superior room. To really amplify your experience and get a full understanding of the meaning of the 8th and 10th century temples I would hire a guide for 2 or 3 days. We used him twice so far and will be using him in Bali this Dec.for one day as well as another guide Putu on other days. He lived in Bali for almost 6 years and has many art collectors, an interest of ours, so he will take the train from Jajgkarta. We used him twice in Java. He is in his mid-40's college grad. with excellent and fluent English and highly respested for the work he is going to built up tourism in Jogjakarta. He earned the position of UNESCO Advisor to Bobodurur Temple, no small accomplishment. He is a little more expensive than the run-of-mill guide by $10-$15USD day but well worth it. You will be fully pleased for a total of 7 days (that included a trip to Mt. Bromo in East Java). He gets $75-$80USD for a 10 hour day. When your spending a major investment on the trip and extra $20+/day plus tip I see that as "drop in the bucket". You must tell him you want him and only him as your guide and not his other guides. Included is a pick-up at the airport and if he is available a return. Not need to tip handlers at the airport.

You can contact Putu at: Putuarnawa@aol
He tends to book up 3-6 weeks in advance. As I think I mentioned he charges 550,000Rp. ~$65 for a 10 hour day for 2-3 people. If you use him for 3 ot more he likely would consider 500,000Rp. He is very prompt. What bears repeating is you want him not his cousin who is nice but less informed because he is 10 years younger.
