Zimbabwe: children in Hwange or Mana Pools
I will be travelling with my 11 years old son to Vic Falls for 2 nights and then we have 3 extra nights to spend in the area in early April 2008.
It seems that most of the camps accepts children 12 years and above. My son will be 12 just 2 weeks AFTER the trip. Do you think the rule is very strictly observed over there ? If yes, are there other camps welcoming 11 years old children ?
What would you pick between Hwange and Mana Pools considering the season and wildlife viewing.
Last year we were in the dry Namibia in June and saw a lot of wildlife in Etosha but did not see water activities like hippos and crocs. We also missed the leopard and cheetah, but we saw a lot of lions.
I would appreciate your suggestions

If you want hippo action, definitely go to Mana Pools as no hippos in Hwange but did see a couple of crocs. Mana Pools would have some canoeing activities, just land based game drives in Hwange. I loved Hwange and would recommend it, but I did miss the sounds of the hippos. Don't know about the age limit or how'd they check.

Fabio,
you're probably Italian and since I am planning next summer 08 in Botswana and Namibia with my family (children 8 and 10), I would share some thoughts with you.
Our plan is probably to go with DRAGOMAN overland organizaet that has a trip like the one we would dedicated to families.
Please let me know if we can get in contact to discuss better.
Thanks and regards
Marco

I would contact the camps directly and ask them. I know of two operators, one in Mana, and one in Hwange, that I have spent time with, and had wonderful times with. They can both be emailed directly and you can find out for sure that way!! I have been to Mana twice, and it is my favorite place on earth, but Hwange was also very special, with the elephants coming right up to the pool and drinking as I sat at the pool, quietly spending time with them. I think it also depends on your son- some 11 year olds would not be appropriate on a safari( heck some 14-45 year olds aren't appropriate)lol! suzi
