What's your favorite African Sundowner?
In light of Predator Biologist's adventures with the "Springbok", it made me wonder what each of our favorite "sundowners" are while in Africa. 
Mine is usually a glass of wine or trying the local beer if available.
Although now I've taken quite a liking to the Amarula liqueur. 8-)

Glass of warm red, gentle breeze, good conversation and the sound of an African evening in the bush. Actually I just looked up the definition of <i>perfect</i> in my dictionary and it was exactly that!

Depends. If it's really hot and humid, and the makings are at hand, a vodka tonic with lime. Otherwise, and especially if it's really hot and dry, the local beer (only if it's ice cold).
If it's really cold outside, a glass of red wine to warm me up.
But most of the time, a glass of chilled white wine hits the spot perfectly.

Oh how I wish I was a drinker, and perhaps even a smoker. It would do wonders for my waistline! I see, now, the Rock Shandy does not have alcohol...no wonder why I liked it...completely empty calories!
Instead, I am an eater, and have a hard time with drinking more than once every blue moon. I didn't even find the appropriate occasion to endulge in more than a single glass of wine at a few dinners while in Tanzania.
I think the last time I endulged was at Kasaka River Lodge in September of last year as I found Hugo, the manager, great company...probably because he was the only one in Zambia who was fatter than me!
After a couple bottles of the finest South African red wine on hand, I almost convinced him to come to the USA for the experience of chili-fries, alone!

Correction...it was not just chili fries, but rather chili cheese fries, and for anyone in Southern California reading this, it was more exactly chili cheese fries from The Hat.
Here are some reviews that I came across for the Pasadena location, although there are a dozen locations throughout Southern California!

I am just biding my time...my hunger is growing and growing...any minute now I will abandon my post in front of the computer and make a beeline for The Hat and burn my fingers on the scalding chili-cheese fries as I drive home!

There is the Los Angeles you see on television/movies and then there is the Los Angeles that 90% of its residents actually live.
While I don't mind some of the creature comforts of the Los Angeles lifestyle, for the most part I am a homebody and love hanging out in my comfortable home, when not out doing my boxing photography or things that Alexsandra wants to do.

A very different spin on the shandy, Rocco. ;-)
The real shandy, half beer and half ginger ale, is also mighty refreshing after spending the day in the hot Africa sun.
Yummy...A shandy paired with some chili cheese fries while in Africa! Doesn't get much better than that!

DW usually has a glass of SA Sauv Blanc
Our friend Peter is very conscientious about trying new beers and has been trying Windhoek Lager at every sundowner for the past couple of years.
