Unusual Israel

We've been to Israel some five times, the last time about 12 years ago. We'd like to revisit in Spring 2014 and would like input about tours or trips that are not the usual highlights type. We are both seniors (in good health), so nothing too strenuous.

Arnec, 12 years is a long time so there's so much for you to see, new and expanded museums, recently discovered archaeology, whole neighborhoods that barely existed. My "problem" is that I'm in Israel a couple times ayear and have a hard time finding something new

So what interests you? What did you see on your previous trips that you liked most?
Are you planning on traveling mostly independently? Most organized multi day tours would probably cover sites you've already seen but there are daytrips and walking tours that might show you something new. For example in Tel Aviv, have you done a Bauhaus architecture walking tour? Shopped and eaten at the Port or Tachana (Station) areas of Tel Aviv? Visited the Palmach museum or the Rabin Center?
For hike and nature tours,it's too early for details for 2014, but for examples check the schedules for The Jewish National Fund/KKL http://www.kkl.org.il/eng/monthly_events/ or the SPNI (Society for Protection of Nature In Israel),and the Israel National Parks Authority.

Thanks for the informed reply. We are interested in museums, archeological sites, hiking and nature walks. We have not seen the sites you recommended. We are open to tours and guided walks.

Since it's been so long since your last visit to Israel many of the places you have seen have changed significantly. High on the list are the Israel Museum which underwent a complete remodel and is definitely worth a visit. Same for Yad VaShem.

Another place that changes from week to week, so 12 years is a lifetime is the City of David.

I to am in Israel multiple times a year for an extended amount of time. Oreet took my idea of City of David.(there are TWO different tours, both should be gone on! The Kotel Tunnel walk is expanded from what is was 12 years ago ( reserve in advance) JNF runs a one day trip every Wed. --it is not expensive and very interesting. Did you do the Sifting project through City of David--fascinating. While not a site--Jerusalem has a new light rail for tansportation.

Wait, the whole country is newer and more modern. AND I can't remember, when you were last in Israel was Terminal 2 at the airport open? --if not , just wait til you see the airport!

Thanks for input ..did not do "sifting project through City of David". Don't recall if Terminal 2 was there on our last trip.
