Hi Miriam, sorry no idea where to get them in Nbi,but they are all sourced from Arusha,a 4 hrs drive across the border where you'll save huge amount of $$.
Thanks.

Hi emdee:

We purchased stones from Swala Gems. They had been recommended by climghighsleeplow here on the board. They have an office in the Arusha Hotel--also another one in Arusha according to their web site.

Here is the address.

In January I purchased a beautiful rhodolite garnet from Swala Gems in the Arusha Hotel, which proved to be a good purchase when I got it home. They were very nice to deal with and apparently highly reputable. Their tanzanite was gorgeous, but very expensive.

Forgot to mention that at Swala there was a 5 percent surcharge to use a credit card, so better to plan to pay cash if you can.

Mr.Shah of The Collector's Den in Nairobi had several types of mounted and loose stones including Tanzanite.

sorry I just noticed that you asked about Nairobi. Swala Gems does have some stones for sale on their website but I think they tend to be very large and expensive.
