Recommendation for a CapeTown Guest House / Bed & Breakfast
Hello, can anyone recommend a good house in Cape Town in the $120 - $200 per night price range. I remember reading about some guest houses here some time ago but I cannot find the post. I did do a search for Guest House Cape Town and only quite old postings came up.
We are looking for something quite close to the V&A Waterfront.
Thanks

it is not a B&B but i put a lot of clients into hollows on the square. their rates are very good. i think the hotel has about 70 rooms. published rates start at R655 per person sharing. This is about USD180 total or USD90 pp.

both hollows and cape cadogan should have better rates if you book through a tour operator. i don't know the exact figures, but i am sure they get more than 75% of their foreign business through tour operators and not through direct bookings. both the hotels co-own safari lodges in the sabi sands and serve as the sister-property for safari goers in cape town. hollows is owned by the same people as djuma and kings camp. cape cadogan is owned by the same people as lion sands. my point is - they use different rate schemes to get the rooms filled through tour operators that have clients going on safari.
if you are looking for even less expensive, you could try the city lodge chain of properties (or even cheaper road lodge). i would never book a client into anything cheaper. if someone wanted a cheaper room than this, i would ask them to book direct so i would not be responsible for the possible service let-down. http://www.citylodge.co.za/cl10.htm
i think ZAR 1,200 is about the lowest you will find for a room (total) that most people would stand-behind & recommend. i look forward to some other people maybe contradicting me??
there are many (8 or 10) local cape town people that are VERY active on trip advisor in the south africa forum. i suggest you post this question there as well. "macsym", "cape diva", and many more will quickly respond.
hope this helps.

Don't know what your plans are, but if baboon walks through Baboon Matters, the penguin colony, Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, and Great White Sharks at Seal Island in False Bay are something you'd like to do, then maybe you'd like to stay in Simons Town, about 30 minutes away from Cape Town. There is train transport. In that case I'd recommend Central Hotel, which is really a B&B but cannot change its name due to historical register reasons. It was way under $200/nt for one person in 2008.

Thanks again Craig, I will look on TA as well, we do prefer the guest house B&B option and I have seen quite a few that look very good in our price range, just hoping for a personal recommendation.
Just received an email re rates at 18 on Crox Guest House - R1295 for a standard room, looks good.
atravelynn, this trip is purely busiess, shopping and movies so we prefer a central location. Thanks for your response.

you should be able to get meanigful comments from the cape town experts on trip advisor if you ask them about 18 on croix. i go to cape town all the time but unfortunately i focus my energy on being familiar with the larger hotels and the B&B properties that work in conjunction with other travel experiences. another example is that rovos rail just bought a b&b in cape town.

Just wanted to let you all know that we ended up staying at Amanzi Guest House http://www.amanzistonecottages.co.za/. They have studios which we stayed in and 1 and 2 bedroom cottages. The studio is quite large with a couch and good size TV, a small table and chairs and a kitchenette good enough for self catering. Small, clean, contemporary design, good price, I think about US$110 including breakfast for 2 people. We are going back in March and recommend this place. Safe walking distance to restaurants and supermarket. I have done a full review on Trip Advisor for anyone interested.

Take a look at David's Guest house which is in a neighborhood next to the stadium-check out the reviews on Tripadvisor. It is really nice and makes you feel as though you are with friends in a B and B. Kitchen privleges with beer and wine so when you are having bad jet lag in the middle of the night you can have a glass of wine and read in the kitchen or living room. The owners are delightful.

take a look at dewaterkant place...we stayed there in 2006( paid 90usd/night including breakfast) and the place was great-large room, bathroom-rooftop patio for breakfast. there was a little square down the road that had an excellent wine bar and italian deli and a great sushi place. it was the perfect location for us, we walked everywhere and loved it.
if this isn't free, or you are looking for a different price, there are lots of options in dewaterkant.
