Northern Israel

I now find out we only have two days to spend in the north-ouch!! Probably not enough time to see all there is to see. What are the "special" must sees in this area and how can we do it all in 2 days? We will be staying in Safed.
Traveling with 2 children 12 and 7.
Thanks for the help.

The usual questions for travelers to Israel include whether you are interested in Jewish, Christian, Mulsim sites, all of the above, none of the above? Nature, archaelogy? Also, will you have a car? What time of the year are you going?

Safed is a place some people spend an entire day--are you counting that as one of 2 days? Where else are you staying in Israel? Some people would count Haifa and Akko as part of their visit in the north, while others might just go there from Tel Aviv.

Megiddo and Tsippori,Tiberias/Sea of Galilee areas?
Are you also looking for kid specific activities?

ONly Jewish sites in the north. History, archeology, nature are all of interest. We are not considering Safed as one of the two days, though wewill tour Safed as best we can while we are staying there..
We will be in Jerusalem for 5 days, Tel Aviv for two days and the north for 2 days. Not necessarily kid specific activities- though 2 or 3 that would also be of interest to the 4 adults also would be great. We do have a car.

I'm topping for you because we'll be on a cruise that stops 2 days in the Haifa port, so I'm very interested in the advice you receive. We also have 2 days out of Ashdod, so 1 day from there is Masada, Dead Sea & Ein Gedi. The 2nd day is the Old City and Yad Vashem. The North is perplexing. Does doing the NW coast 1 day make sense, and the next day seeing the east or inland sites like Tzafat? Hope someone will help us both!

Try to go to Megiddo. It's so very historic and beautiful. I've been there at least 3 times. But, maybe I am nuts. There is a wonderful old Roman hot springs on the Israel/Syria/Jordan border called Hamat Gader. It's a very interesting drive. It's also a very interesting Israeli experience as there will be people from all over there. Jews and Arabs alike. Different. It was used by the Syrian army before, but now belongs to Israel. The actual Roman baths can be seen but not approached closely. There is also a very big crusader castle called Nimrod which looks wonderful, but you need some time too see it. Some of the Druze villages are interesting with good local restaurants. I'd have to say though, try to go to Meggido. After all, it's just like the city in "The Source" by Michener, and it's special. The other thing is Beit Shean, which is quite historic, restored, and very large.

Hi When we visited northern Israel a couple of years ago we visited Katzrin. It's a reconstructed Jewish village. Though only a couple of buildings have been entirely reconstructed, we found it very interesting. It's also near the Golan Heights Winery. If you have a couple of hours it's an interesting place to visit. Enjoy your trip.
