Looking for light-weight luggage (not carry-on)

I am heading to Kenya and Tanzania in December for 2 weeks and I'm only allowed 33lbs! Any suggestions for the best luggage to purchase for this?

Your best (and probaly only) bet is to buy a dufflebag, they weight 2lbs each empty - that leaves you 31 lbs. We bought ours at Mountain Equipment Co-op, we bought the "large", the small is a day bag, the medium would be a weekender, the large was perfect and the extra large would have been way too big.

Mtn Equip Co-op is a Canadian company, but you can buy similar bags at LL Bean & many other US companies. You don't need wheels, as you won't handle your luggage once you get to Nairobi.

You can also check www.ebags.com Sometimes they have duffles under their own label, no wheels and weights maybe 2/lbs (as LyndaS mentions). Prices can be as low at $25-30 for a 30" bag with U-shaped opening. Mine has held up for more trips than I can count.

Since no mention of where you are, if Stateside, you can check TJMaxx, Costco or other warehouse stores or discounters who seem to carry everything, though not every day.

Sandi just edged me out. I, too, was going to recommend http://www.ebags.com/ , which I've used the last several years for buying lightweight luggage (as my age goes up, I want the bags' weight to go down). For many of the items, you can see how other customers have rated them.
