Kruger,Sabi Sand and Timbavati photos

Hi,

Here are some of the pictures we took last September in the Greater Kruger Area. We spent 1 day in Kruger National Park, 2 days in the Sabi Sand Reserve ( Kirkmans Kamp ) and 3 days in the Timbavati Reserve ( Ngala Tented Camp ) .

From a photographic point of view , taking wildlife pictures in this area is more challenging than East Africa , Namibia desert , Etosha or other wildlife areas with open spaces, because background are usually distracting and animals are not easy to find in open areas but then is amazing the amount of wildlife and quality of sights you will have.

We where happy with our experience in South Africa and hope to come back some day.

Thanks Paco, V nice photos, favorites are Ground Horn-bill and leopard at water hole. And as you replied to my trip report, we were in Kruger and Kirkmans very close to same time in Sep 2009. Your hyena pups were at their den at Ngala (great shot), was also a hyena den at Kirkmans. Thanks again.

I've been to East Africa only once, Kenya, but I think taking photos is a little easier in South Africa. However so much depends on just being there, finding good subjects, at the right time - and light.

regards - tom

The leopard(s) at the water are stunning images. The glorious klipspringer was a unique composition that klipspringers do not often enjoy. Great ground hornbill action. Beautiful photos.

Thanks a lot for the comments,

Tom , you are right ,there was a hyena den at Kirkman´s with well grown pups and the one at Ngala with very small pups. Our visit to this den was probably the highlight of the trip,it was fantastic.

Matt, i am updating the gallery and have more birds but have to admit that in an area so rich with mammals is more difficult to concentrate on birds if you are not a birder!!
