Kenya Safari Questions
Hi Fodorites,
I am quite the avid European traveler, but stepping out of comfort zone this March and going on Safari to Kenya. Flying in and out of Nairobi. We have 6 days. We have been looking on Safari Bookings and are interested in a 6 days Masai mara, Lake Nakuru and Amboseli, economy camping trip through Right Choice Tours and safaris.
We are on a semi limited budget but I would really like input as the lodging is described as " Full board accommodation offered in large spacious tents, all en suite bathrooms with hot and cold shower and flash toilet in Masai Mara and a Hotel in Nakuru.
Can someone explain to me what this really entails? I am slightly high maintenance. The cost is $840 per person for 5 nights 6 days. Which seems awfully cheap.
Additionally, I am a vegetarian with a restrictive diet and food allergies. In anyone's experience will they accommodate these needs accordingly?
Thank you all so much for your help...
Ps. Trip is for March of this year

If you are even slightly self-described bed "high maintenance" I suspect guarantee you will NOT be happy with what you get at $840 total for five nights. I'd be especially wary of the "Hotel in Nakuru" which sounds like it might be IN Nakuru town rather than the Nakuru reserve. There are some pretty bad ones right in the town.
On the other hand, the tents will be a lot nicer than you'd expect, if they have en suite bathroom with toilet hot and cold shower. Can you get a guarantee from the company of WHICH camp it is? Beware of the words "or similar..." in the description.

Hullo my dia
Price might not be my problem i have some few questions
1. how many are you in the trip?
2. please ask him which type of the safari car to be used?
3. the real names of the camps for accommodation
That will help you have a view of the cost since you are paying inclusive safari which means in that money it composes of Park entry fee per day, accommodation in full board which means Breakfast, lunch and dinner, car hire and all the activities as mentioned in the itinerary if you value them do you think that money is worth it?
Masai mara to Lake Nakuru takes more than six hours drive how much fuel will that be?
Please my friend check well for hidden costs on that safari
some operators give you as low as possible then later tell you you pay your own park entry

I've stayed in camp accommodations with a bath (a semi-permanent tent with camp beds, limited electricity, a/c unit, and bath with running water), and it was very comfortable. However, this was in India rather than Africa. But I suspect the idea is the same.
I'd be more concerned about the food. While vegetarian-focused cuisine is not at all uncommon in Africa, it's not what is generally served to tourists, and you may have issues, particularly with a restrictive diet and allergies. Though of course it depends on what those allergies are.
But anyone with high expectations and a limited diet could suffer in such a trip, which also might have a lot of "extras" unincluded.
