Kenya Airways (KQ) - Need to reconfirm ticket?

Looking at the KQ website, they state that passengers must reconfirm their ticket 72 hours prior to flying.
Does anybody have any experience with this rule? Did you confirm your ticket with Kenya Airways? If so, how did you do it while on a Safari?
If you did not reconfirm, were there any repercussions?
Thanks!

This is very common in South America. Don't know about KQ, but other airlines I've flown will cancel your ticket if you don't reconfirm. I'd err on the safe side.

While on safari, the lodge should be able to do it for you, or you TA.

I would confirm and re-confirm your ticket, especially in economy class. KQ tends to overbook their flights (to compensate for no-shows). Also make sure that you turn up to the airport at least 2 hours before the flight to make sure you get on. I have seen it all the time, in Nairobi and Mombasa, passengers getting bumped off due to overbooked flights.

I just called KQ in NYC, and they did reconfirm us for our flights (we take our first KQ flight from Europe to NBO in just three days!)
They did advise us that passengers MUST reconfirm.
We will be flying business class - do we still need to show up 2-2.5 hours before our flight from NBO back to Europe on the way back???

On arrival it is usual for your land outfitter to have you sign waivers and provide return flight info so they can reconfirm for you. Verify with whomever is booking your trip about this.

Even for Business Class, I wouldn't check-in any later than 2/hrs prior. This is especially so if you have a late flight when the airport is very crowded (many flights depart at night) with lines at all counters, clearing immigration, etc.

Of course, you'll have to wait till boarding, and there is little order at JKIA, but I wouldn't chance it, by running in last minute. These days airlines are being very strict as to when paxs must checkin and be at the departure gates... if not, you don't board and your luggage is removed from the plane.

Definitely re-confirm and re-confirm again. I just logged in to my Kenya Airways reservation for an internal Africa flight and was told it had been cancelled and a ticket couldn't be issued. I called and was told we'd never paid--I gave them the info in the payment received email as well as the info from my credit card statement and they re-confirmed it...but they said to take a copy of my credit card statement to show I paid. So...I would suggest others do the same--take a copy of your credit card statement as proof of payment.

Out of Nairobi, KQ has a telephone check in facility for Business Class, and Flying Blue Gold and Platinum members. The local number is (020) 6422000. Ask for telephone check in. You can check in upto 18 hours before the flight. I use this facility all the time. You can then turn up 1.5 hours before the flight.

Nairobi airport has a dedicated Business Class Lounge (Simba), and a seperate lounge for Flying Blue Platinum and Gold Guests. The Simba Lounge is a great escape from the main airport.

Unfortunately, we have paper tickets. Can we use the phone check in even with paper tickets?
Come to think of it, the reason we have paper tickets is because of our KQ flights, so perhaps they still only operate with paper tickets.
Regardless, the phone check in is a great alternative if we can use it (as biz class pax).

You can use the paper tickets for the phone check in. All they do is allocate a seat, and confirm you on the flight. When you proceed to the phone check in desk, they will ask for your passport, lugguage and ticket. The Boarding cards will be already printed.

Hallo,
As far as i know, the tour company that organises your trip is the one who has to reconfirm your tickets. Are you using a local tour operator?

No, we got here w/tickets we booked ourselves (FF miles). We'll ask our ground operators whether they can reconfirm us, shouldn't be an issue (I don't think).

Currently in AMS, en route to NBO to start this African adventure!
