Jordan travel Feb '08

My husband and I will be traveling with a group of 20 adults to egypt arriving on Jan. 29 '08. Following 12 days in the Egypt area my husband and I will be traveling on to Jordan privately the first part of Feb '08 for 6 days. We are looking for additional information about 'not to miss' sight or things to do in both locations. Also any suggestions of things to avoid will also be of help. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I will be posting this on both Egypt and Jordan topic pages.
Thank you in advance.

You can look up my trip report. I thought the Lonely Planet guide did a good job of preparing us and giving us an idea of of the different sights.

The biggest "don't misses" will be Wadi Rum and Petra. Both of those places could easily justify 2 days. I also suggest a swim in the Dead Sea, however it will be very chilly at that time of year so look for a resort with an indoor heated pool using Dead Sea water. I've done it both ways and the indoor pool is a lot more pleasant in the winter. Don't miss Jerash, the Roman ruins just outside of Amman.

For more ideas you are welcome to read my trip report, as I was just there in December.

I think bombastic site is now a commercial site and not a personal site and as such would be considered advertising by the rules of the forum....

My top two sights not to miss would be Petra and Jerash in that order. We did enjoy visiting the Wadi Rum desert but it wasn't a highlight for us, though perhaps that's because we've spent time in the beautiful red deserts of Namibia.

Depending on how long you are there, you can visit a number of other historical sites of varying interest.

Dead Sea was interesting but I would not have gone out of my way for it - as we were heading that way, it made sense to pause for a short visit, float in the salty waters, smear the famous mud over our skins, get out, shower and continue onwards.
