Help for 6 -night Israel trip - many questions!
I've booked a flight for 6 nts in early June. Now looking for hotel suggestions -- I will be traveling w/my adult son. Thinking about spending all six nights in Jerusalem and doing day trips from there -- my son will have an additional two weeks for travel on his own.
I've looked at probably 15 hotels this morning online, and am thinking about splitting between 2 hotels. I prefer smaller non-franchise hotels, looking for price range of under $150 per night.
Anyone have experience w/Montefiore, Jerusalem Tower, Ambassador or Ariel -- or any other suggestions? I've checked out most of the listings in the Fodors guidebook . . .
Also, is it possible to book small-group day trips once we arrive? Specific suggestions for what not to miss?
Many thanks!

Yes - come to Israel. It will be a bit hot and yes the political situation can change in minutes but if you haven't been here why not.
As you continue your hotel search post the details and will check out for you. Good Luck!

Pittsburgher- I answered you in the Europe forum that I advise you to spend two nights in the north. First because there is what to see, and second driving in Israel is quite stressful and it would save you time on the roads. Jerusalem certainly deserves alot of time but a night or two in Haifa and a visit to the Sea of Galille area and Safed are worthwhile.

Another destination you may want to consider as a day-trip out of Tel Aviv or Haifa would be Zikron Yaakov, esp if you enjoy winery tours and local craft/arts. Similar ambience to northern California/Napa Valley.

Try the Dan Panorama in Israel - June is still a low season and you might get good rates there. There is also the Eldan Hotel and Jerusalem YMCA both around the corner from the Dan Panorama. They are all in a great location within walking distance to the Old City and restaurants, shopping in West Jerusalem - near Ben Yehuda Street and other neighborhoods. I stayed at the Dan Panorama last summer and it was great- we'll be there again in August. You can book day trips with United Tours - we did Masada and Ein Gedi and it was very nice. There are also great walking tours of the Old City (four quarters is very good) through David Tours or Zion Tours. Also, be sure to visit the Tower of David and do a tour. It is a perfect way to get an overview of the history of Jerusalem and the old city. Visit the Herodian House, City of David, Israel Museum, Yad Vashem - walk around the Yemin Moshe neighborhood and see the windmill. Jerusalem is really beautiful. It will be hot during the day but cool off at night so have a sweater or light jacket and light weight long sleeve shirt.
