Gite in Morocco?

Hi,

Gite refers to some sort of accomodation in Morocco and maybe elsewhere. I have looked everywhere and I cannot find out what a Gite refers to in Morocco?

Any input is appreciated.

Gites are 0, 1, and 2 star basic accommodations. Fairly common in some French-speaking and -heritage countries.

It seems that they have some characteristics that are different than regular hotels or other accomodations. What are some of their characteristics?

First, the prononciation is /jit/ And the meaning is simply a place to hide or to rest overnight in case of heavy snow for the first case, or when doing a trecking or a montain climb in the second case. It's usually a wooden little house in remote areas
