About time!!!

NAIROBI, Kenya - Kenya said it will push for an international ban on trade in lion trophies and skins, expressing concern Tuesday that the African lion is "under threat."

Neighboring Tanzania disagreed with the idea of a ban, citing potential loss of revenue from trophy hunters.

Just came across news wires, guess ill not be heading to Tanzania!

I might as well get flamed again.

What a shock...they say it really is about the money! I've always heard that it was about "responsible management' of the species, and would in fact protect a threatened or endangered species. I'm sure Tanzania has been misquoted...or mis-spoke...or something...

I think I'm going to have to plan a trip to Kenya...I know they have other problems they struggle with in terms of conservation, but its about time. Researchers and conservationists have been saying this for years, but the hunting community has always argued that there is no problem, that there are plenty of lions to go around. Then all of a sudden...wham. A big and surprising drop in population is finally documented. I guess it all happened overnight.

Don't be ridiculous. Botswana, Zambia, South Africa all allow hunting yet you are willing to visit them.

For those interested in the whole story about the lion's peril, here's the link:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6122173/

"The wealthy people that hunt them don't need the money. They want to put it on the wall and show it off to their friends"

May I ask...what the heck is wrong with a photograph instead of the fricken head or body of an endangered or threatened species??? Aaargh!

What I am willing to do and what I prefer to do are two very different things. As I also said, it is what is hunted and how the hunting is conducted are important distinctions in the decisions I make. Also much of my travel is driven by business or is conservation-related, not simply a holiday choice.

I simply stated what I prefer to do. If you find my posts or opinions ridiculous, feel free to ignore them.
