A (final) Trivial Question Regarding Tent Camp/Lodge is

whether to pack our own shampoo or if OAT will supply shampoo at both tent camps and Lodges? I know, I know, better safe than sorry, and to take small/sample size bottles anyway, right? What about 3-4 regular T-shirts???

None of the lodges/tents I stayed at in TZ provided shampoo. I don't know if OAT would. I'd take it.

T-shirts for what? Is this in addition to what you are planning to wear day to day?

I've never been at lodge/camp that didn't have at minimum shampoo. That said, I'd never assume and so always bring my own - shampoo, conditioner, body lotion - or whatever else I feel I need poured into those 3/oz travel size bottles.

OK, thanks Sandi and Amy. Thursday is get-away -day. Going to bank today for more CASH, called credit card companies, stopped mail, checked that we have important docs, and just about packed with duffles weighing about 18-19 pounds and carry-ons about 10-11 pounds.....looks like you were all correct with weight...one doesn't really need that, that much. Decided to take along ski cap and scarf for early morning drives...seems like it could get down to upper 40s F. in early AM.

Now all we have to do is make it through 21 hours or so of travel time to Nairobi.

Thanks so much for being there to answer questions and offer opinions during these past 5-6 months. Time does certainly FLY>

Some of the lodges and camps may have shampoo, but others may not. If you use the travel size bottles, put them in a Ziplock bag because they can leak. I use the 2 oz. Nalgene bottles that are leak-proof, but the others will do if you put them in a bag. Yes, it will be chilly in the morning, especially in the Crater. It will definitely warm up during the day, though. Safari njema, Jay! Enjoy your safari and tell us all about it when you get back. If you have Allen Mnyeneye, Peter Njau, Nixon Massawe or Godliving Mkindi for a guide, tell them "Hi!" from Sharon. I've used Kibo for group safaris I've put together and know several of their guides... all great!

When filling the 3/oz bottles or any other bottles being taken and in checked luggage.... please, please, not to the very top. Gotta leave a little air space as when on the plane things do expand and not only our feet. Place all liquids in double ziplock bags.

Safari njema!

Thanks for your good thoughts and well wishes Sharon, Sandi, Amy and all others. It's so weird, we have traveled all over the world and, for this first trip to Africa, I am feeling a little uptight. I guess because it will be so new and different from what we have experienced on other trips and that I will be expected to take extra-ordinary pictures and video for friends and family to view upon our return.

This , even though we have heard, so many times, that this is "the trip of a lifetime" and we know quite a few people, you guys included, that have gone numerous times and they can't wait to go back. Thursday will be here before we know it, being picked up at 9AM for a 2 PM flight....we are about 1 hour away from LAX.

.....and thanks for suggesting not to fill plastic bottle to top because of expansion and to put into plastic zip bags. We learned by experience to do just that......in early days we had some pretty bad messes due to expansion and overflow.

Take a tiny shampoo bottle, get some more cash, and have a blast. Your first night in Tanzania, likely in a regular hotel, will likely have a bottle. Grab that one and use sparingly.

1-2 regular t-shirts is enough, assuming these are for you to wear and not as gifts.

t-shirts also can serve as jammies. Double duty saves on packing space.
