We hear it year after year: The number one thing our readers want when they travel is a unique experience. You’re not interested in simply elbowing your way to a famous tourist attraction or being escorted around with a crowd of strangers—you want to experience something new, something undiscovered. You want to be surprised, swept away. But why should that sentiment be limited to the adventures encountered outside your temporary home-away-from-home? Why expect so much and then return contentedly to a cookie-cutter room?
That’s why we’re introducing our Fodor’s Finest list. The 100 properties on this list are certainly some of the best hotels in the world, but they’re also some of the dreamiest, most swoon-worthy, and sometimes, most unusual this world has to offer. Ultimately, each and every one is entirely glorious and utterly memorable.
We also wanted to pay special attention to pricing. What’s an incredible experience if you can’t afford it? Too many “best hotels” lists feature properties that are impossibly expensive. And, though we do have a few of those (probably more than a few), we also have plenty of affordable options.
Lastly, we want to hear from you. Email us at [email protected] and let us know what we got right and what we got wrong. We’ll be making this list annually, so your opinions matter.
