5 Best Hotels in Punta del Este, Uruguay

Background Illustration for Hotels

Punta hotels operate on a multitier rate system. Prices go through the roof during Christmas and Easter weeks. Standard high-season rates apply in January and go slightly lower in February. March and December see prices a bit lower still, and then November creeps down a bit more, with some real bargains to be found the rest of the year. On the "rest of the year" topic, lodgings may close for a few weeks in the off-season. Always check ahead. Renting also is popular for long-term stays, and listings are available on sites like www.apuntavamos.com.

Club Hotel Casapueblo

$$$ | Punta Ballena, Punta del Este, 20003, Uruguay

It would be hard not to feel like an artist in this whitewashed marvel. Merely riding the old-style iron elevators and walking the sinuous hallways (there are no right angles here) is an experience. Spacious rooms have wooden floors and handsome antique furniture. Each also has a different name—Paloma (Dove), for example, or Luna Negra (Black Moon)—that determines the design of the handmade tiles in your bathroom. The restaurant has a wide terrace with fine coastline views.

Pros

  • Secluded location
  • Conversation-starting architecture
  • Interesting adjoining museum

Cons

  • Far from the Punta action
  • Difficult to procure space in summer
  • No pets
