For something special, bypass the towers of glass and steel and opt instead for such charmers as the Country Club Lima Hotel, Hotel B, or Second Home Peru.

Hyatt Centric San Isidro Lima

$$$ | Av. Jorge Basadre 367, San Isidro, Peru Fodor's Choice

Chic decor, unmatched service, and a trendy rooftop lounge set this Lima newcomer apart from the competition. The rooms are standard hotel-minimalist in design, but the common areas—which include an outdoor pool and a French-Peruvian bistro—are striking. Balconies are available in many rooms, and guests rave about the attentiveness and professionalism of the staff. On warm nights, the views from the Celeste Solar Bar are some of the best in San Isidro.

Pros

  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Easy access to San Isidro restaurants and nightlife
  • Rooftop lounge is among the city's best

Cons

  • Rooms are less impressive than common areas
  • Restaurant is nothing special
  • Pool is a bit small

Sonesta Hotel El Olivar

$$ | Cl. Pancho Fierro 194, San Isidro, 27, Peru

Situated at the edge of an old olive grove, this dark-green hotel enjoys one of the most relaxing settings in San Isidro, especially when you experience it from the sundeck and pool on the top floor. The best accommodations are in front, with big windows for admiring the greenery of Parque El Olivar. Standard rooms are a bit small, but executive ones are amply proportioned, and suites have private balconies. The clientele is mostly business travelers, but this is an excellent option for tourists as well, as it's within walking distance of plenty of restaurants and shops.

Pros

  • Convenient location
  • Restaurant has nice park views
  • Relaxing setting

Cons

  • Standard rooms are compact
  • Interior rooms are dimly lit
  • Business-traveler ambience can be off-putting
