Lime Rock Park

Within a bowl-shaped valley in the northwest corner of Connecticut lays a winding ribbon of American road racing history. Tied for the second oldest sports car track in the country, Lime Rock Park has welcomed fans and enthusiasts every year since 1957. But don't come expecting grandstands or bleachers, as there are just rolling grass viewing areas both inside the track and out. There are food concessions, but guests bring chairs and coolers to witness roaring action from IMSA, NASCAR, Trans-Am, and more, plus a yearly Labor Day historic festival featuring racing machines ranging from the Formula 1 cars of the 1920s to the lightning-quick and thunder-loud sports cars of the modern era. Depending on the series, race fans are welcome to stroll the paddock infield where drivers like Mario Andretti, Derek Bell, Tom Kristensen, and local heroes Dan Gurney and Paul Newman have hit the track.

Lumen Field

Located directly south of Pioneer Square, Lumen Field hosts three professional teams: the Seattle Seahawks (football), the Seattle Sounders FC (men's soccer), and the Seattle Reign (women's soccer). The open-air stadium has 67,000 seats; sightlines are excellent thanks to a cantilevered design and the close placement of lower sections. Tours start at the pro shop (be sure to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to purchase tickets) and last an hour and a half. You'll get a personal look at behind-the-scenes areas as well as the famous 12th Man Flag Pole, and have a chance to sink your feet into the same playing surface as your favorite Seahawks, Sounders, and Reign stars.

M&T Bank Stadium

West Baltimore

The NFL Baltimore Ravens team hosts home games in this state-of-the-art stadium from August to January.

Mesquite Championship Rodeo

Each year some 300,000 fans pack it in at the over the course of the April-to-September season. The action inside the arena includes riders atop bucking broncos and bulls, barrel races, steer wrestling, a kiddie calf scramble, mutton busting (for those 4 and younger), and, on the tamer side, pony rides and a petting zoo.

Minute Maid Park

Downtown

The Houston Astros play in this modern-but-retro baseball stadium, which has a retractable roof and a monster a/c system to defy Houston's frequently changing weather. Upper-deck seats on the first base side have great views of the downtown skyline—even when the roof is closed, due to a very cool retractable glass wall. The stadium incorporates Houston's 1911 Union Station (designed by Warren and Wetmore of New York's Grand Central Station fame), which houses the ball club offices, retail stores, and eateries. Heavy hitters can rent out Union Station's rooftop, which has views into the stadium from above.

Mount Lemmon Ski Valley

Foothills

Follow Mount Lemmon Highway to its end and you're at Mount Lemmon Ski Valley. Skiing and snowboarding here depend on natural conditions; there's no artificial snow, so call ahead. There are 21 runs, ranging from beginner to advanced. Lift tickets cost $69 for an all-day pass and $59 for a half-day pass starting at 12:30 pm. Equipment rentals and instruction are available.

Off-season you can take a ride on the chairlift ($15), which whisks you to the top of the slope—some 9,100 feet above sea level. Many ride the lift, then hike on one of several trails that crisscross the summit. The Iron Door Restaurant, across the road, serves sandwiches, soups, and homemade pies, which you can enjoy with gorgeous views.

Muscle Beach

Bronzed young men bench-pressing five girls at once, weightlifters doing tricks on the sand—the Muscle Beach facility fired up the country's imagination from the get-go. The original Muscle Beach, just south of the Santa Monica Pier, is where bodybuilders Jack LaLanne and Vic and Armand Tanny used to work out in the 1950s. When it was closed in 1959, the bodybuilders moved south along the beach to Venice, to a city-run facility known as "the Pen," and the Venice Beach spot inherited the Muscle Beach moniker. The spot is probably best known now as a place where a young Arnold Schwarzenegger first came to flex his muscles in the late '60s and began his rise to fame. The area now hosts a variety of sports and gymnastics events, along with occasional "beach babe" beauty contests that always draw a crowd. But stop by any time during daylight for an eye-popping array of beefcakes.

National Croquet Center

The world's largest croquet complex, the 10-acre center is also the headquarters for the U.S. Croquet Association. Vast expanses of orderly lawns are the stage for fierce competitions. There's also a clubhouse with a pro shop and the Croquet Grille, with verandas for dining and viewing (armchair enthusiasts can enjoy the games for no charge). You don't have to be a member to try your hand out on the lawns, and on Saturday morning at 10 am, there's a free group lesson with an introduction to the game and open play; call in advance to reserve a spot.

Petco Park

East Village

Petco Park is home to the city's major league baseball team, the San Diego Padres. The ballpark is strategically designed to give fans a view of San Diego Bay, the skyline, and Balboa Park. Reflecting San Diego's beauty, the stadium is clad in sandstone from India to evoke the area's cliffs and beaches; the 39,860 seats are dark blue, reminiscent of the ocean, and the exposed steel is painted white to reflect the sails of harbor boats on the bay. The family-friendly lawnlike berm, "Park at the Park," is a popular and affordable place for fans to view the game, which brings the total capacity to over 42,000. The ballpark is known for an exceptional variety of local food vendors and craft breweries, including burgers from local icon Hodad's, garlic fries from family-owned Gaglione Brothers, "Cardiff Crack" nachos from Seaside Market, and slices and brews from Pizza Port. Behind-the-scenes guided tours of Petco, including the press box and the dugout, are offered throughout the year.

Q2 Stadium

North Austin

The home of the Austin Football Club, the city's first major professional sports team, is a state-of-the-art soccer stadium located just north of downtown off Burnet Road. There are clear-bag restrictions at the gate, and staff is helpful and informative when it comes to navigating the facility. You'll find an amazing selection of local food stalls, including Black's BBQ, Bao'd Up, and Taco Flats, just to name a few. Check the Austin FC schedule to catch a home game. You'll see fans decked out in green throughout the city as they make their way to the stadium. A bevy of local restaurants, bars, and breweries are nearby for pre- or post-game celebrations.

On Labor Day the track is the site of the All-American Quarter Horse Futurity, with a total purse of as much as $3 million. Snapdragon Stadium

Mission Valley

Once the home of professional sports teams the San Diego Chargers (NFL) and the Padres (MLB), the original stadium on this site (built in 1967) was demolished in 2021 to make way for the brand spankin'-new Snapdragon Stadium. Now, 35,000 spectators gather to watch San Diego State University Aztecs football and professional soccer teams San Diego Wave and San Diego FC, plus live concerts, monster truck exhibitions, and more. The stadium is easily accessible via the Green Line on the San Diego Trolley at the Stadium stop (where kids under 18 always ride free). Many of the concessions stands are run by local businesses, including Hodad's, Cali BBQ, The Crack Shack, and Best Pizza & Brew.

Snapdragon Stadium only allows clear bags inside, but offer storage lockers for rent at most events.

SoFi Stadium

Opened in 2020, SoFi Stadium serves as the home field for the NFL's Los Angeles Rams and Chargers. This architectural marvel, the most expensive stadium ever built at more than $5 billion, boasts a capacity of up to 100,000 and features a unique indoor-outdoor design with a transparent roof and the largest video board in sports. Along with that, you'll enjoy premium amenities without a bad seat in the house. Parking is abundant (though expensive) and major events offer public transit shuttles. For those not attending events, an hour-long tour is frequently offered (though pricey). SoFi will be a centerpiece venue housing events like the 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 Summer Olympics.

Soldier Field

South Loop

Opened in 1924 as the Municipal Grant Park Stadium, the facility was renamed in 1925 to commemorate American soldiers who died during World War I. Just south of the Museum Campus, the building and its massive columns are reminiscent of ancient Greece. It's the home field for the NFL's Chicago Bears and Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire FC, as well as a venue for college games and concerts. A controversial modern glass expansion, which looks like a spaceship that landed on the arena, was completed in 2003. Behind-the-scenes tours feature the Doughboy statue, Colonnades, the field, South Courtyard, visitors' locker room, the suites, and the United Club.

T-Mobile Arena

South Strip

T-Mobile Arena has probably become most widely known beyond Las Vegas as the home of the National Hockey League's Vegas Golden Knights, an expansion team that reached the Stanley Cup finals during its inaugural season. It's also a popular concert venue, attracting acts from George Strait to Ariana Grande to Kiss. And it's rich in amenities, with a variety of restaurants, bars, and guest services. When there's downtime, you can tour the arena's backstage areas, but these tours are offered only sporadically.

T-Mobile Park

Pioneer Square

This 47,000-seat, open-air baseball stadium with a state-of-the-art retractable roof is the home of the Seattle Mariners. If you want to see the stadium in all its glory, take the 60-minute pre-game tour or 75-minute behind-the-scenes tour, which brings you onto the field, into the dugouts, back to the press and locker rooms, and up to the posh box seats. Tours depart from the Team Store on 1st Avenue, and you purchase your tickets there, too (at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled tour).

TD Garden

West End

With its not-quite-nostalgic name, this sports and concert arena opened in 1995 to the chagrin of diehard local sports fans who occasionally still grieve the crusty, original Boston Garden it replaced. Today, the TD Garden is home to the NBA's Boston Celtics and NHL's Boston Bruins teams, hosts 200 events every year, and seats nearly 20,000. During the offseason, see international touring musicians and bands, Disney on Ice, wrestling events, and Boston's famed Beanpot tourney.
