Beverly Center

West Hollywood

This eight-level shopping center is home to luxury retailers like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Salvatore Ferragamo but also offers plenty of outposts for more affordable brands including Aldo, Coach, and Steve Madden. Don't miss the bevy of great dining options like Eggslut and Yardbird Table & Bar.

Aventura Mall

Fodor's Choice
Aventura Mall, North Miami Beach
Aventura Mall

This three-story megamall offers the ultimate in South Florida retail therapy and houses many global top performers, including the most lucrative outposts of several U.S. chain stores, a supersize Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's, and 300 other shops, like a two-story flagship Louis Vuitton, Hermès, and Fendi, which together create one of the largest shopping malls in the United States. Recent additions include a Nike store (where you can customize your Nike gear), the massive Treats Food Hall, and the 93-foot Aventura Slide Tower, a huge spiraling landmark that's also a functioning, nine-story slide open to the public Monday through Saturday 11 am to 9 pm and Sunday 11 am to 8 pm. Consider it a one-stop, shop-'til-you-drop retail mecca for locals, out-of-towners, and—frequently—celebrities.

Broadway at the Beach

Central Myrtle Beach Fodor's Choice

South Carolina's only Hard Rock Cafe and Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville restaurant are among the many themed restaurants at this shopping complex set around Lake Broadway, where you can soar through the sky on a zipline or take a dizzying speedboat ride. It's the area's biggest mall, with shops ranging from the Man Cave Store and a Harley-Davidson outfitter to the Southern Living store, featuring home items curated by the magazine. Among the many attractions in the complex are Pavilion Park's kids' and thrill rides, a Topgolf, and the WonderWorks interactive museum, where kids can spend hours exploring and adults can strap into one of several simulators that send you twirling at dizzying speeds.

Casa Mar Village

Fodor's Choice

What was once a row of worn-down buildings is now a merry mix of gift shops and galleries. By day, these colorful stores glisten at their canal-front location; by nightfall, they're lit up like a lovely Christmas town.

The Domain

North Austin Fodor's Choice

Austin's premier shopping and entertainment district, the Domain is just a short drive north of downtown, situated along North MoPac (Loop 1) at the beginning of North Austin's IBM campus and surrounding tech corridor.

The sprawling, open-air center is home to more than 100 aspirational and name-brand shops, like Gucci, Neiman Marcus, Tiffany & Co., and Tesla, that cater to the platinum-card set. Those on more modest budgets have plenty to appreciate, though, with familiar favorites like Bath & Body Works, Levi's, and Zara found amid dozens of excellent eateries and other noteworthy offerings, including luxury movie theaters, pop-up museum installations, salons, and dance studios.

Some complain there's very little Austin-specific about the North Austin locale, but more local flavor continues to arrive in the ever-expanding shopping district, including a lovely Kendra Scott jewelry location and homegrown eateries such as Juiceland. It's also home to the new flagship location of Cap City Comedy Club.

It's a pleasant place to spend a few hours, if only to window shop after a nice meal—or enjoy a full-blown retail-oriented weekend with a bevy of delicious fine-dining options to choose from and plenty of luxury and business-friendly hotels in the immediate vicinity.

Fashion Island

Fodor's Choice

The outdoor Fashion Island mall is designed with archways, courtyards, koi pond, fountains, and a mix of high-end shopping and chain stores. Multiple dining venues include Fleming's Steak House, True Food Kitchen, and Sushi Roku. Well-known department store anchors include Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdale's; smaller shops include See's Candies and boutiques like Brandy Melville. The newest addition is the four floor RH Newport Beach design gallery filled with sparkling chandeliers, indoor and outdoor furniture, heritage olive trees, and trickling fountains. At the rooftop is RH Ocean Grill offering sweeping views of the California coastline. Enjoy a glass of wine or Champagne from the wine bar while enjoying brunch, lunch, or dinner.

Fashion Show Las Vegas

North Strip Fodor's Choice

The frontage of this fashion-devoted mall is dominated by The Cloud—a giant, oblong disc that looms high above the entrance. Ads and footage of the mall's own fashion events are periodically projected across the expanse of this ovoid screen. Inside, the mall is sleek, spacious, and airy—a nice change from some of the claustrophobic casino malls. The mall delivers on its name: fashion shows are staged in the Great Hall on an 80-foot-long catwalk that rises from the floor (on select weekends). Although you can find many of the same stores in the casino malls, there's a smattering of different fare, such as Drybar, which specializes in blowouts; Calzedonia Italian Legwear; the LEGO store; and shops specializing in tailoring and purse and hat cleaning. Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Macy's, Dillard's, and Forever 21 serve as the mall's anchors. Along with an airy food court, dependable chains, including The Capital Grille, Maggiano's, Benihana, and California Pizza Kitchen, offer sit-down dining. There's even a Hello Kitty Café. Or stop at the Capital One Cafe; maybe you'll see Jennifer Garner!

Fashion Valley

Mission Valley Fodor's Choice

San Diego's most upscale mall has a contemporary Mission theme, lush landscaping, and 200 shops and restaurants. Acclaimed retailers like Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's, and Tiffany & Co. are here, along with boutiques from fashion darlings like Michael Kors, Tory Burch, and Kate Spade. H&M is a favorite of fashionistas in search of edgy and affordable styles. Free wireless Internet service is available throughout the mall. Select "Free Simon Wi-Fi" from any Wi-Fi–enabled device to log onto the network.

The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace

Center Strip Fodor's Choice

Amazing ambience, architecture, and design means visitors won't have to drop a single dime to enjoy touring this highly accessible mid-Strip mall. Leave the high heels at home to better roam the three levels of restaurants and retail—some paths are cobblestoned—that resemble an ancient Roman streetscape, with scattered statuary, immense columns and arches, two central piazzas with ornate fountains, and a cloud-filled ceiling-sky that changes from sunrise to sunset over the course of three hours (to subconsciously spur shoppers to step up their pace of acquisition, perhaps?).  The Mitsubishi-designed freestanding Spiral Escalator is a must-ride for the view.

Of course, shopaholics will rejoice at the selection of designer shops and traditional standbys, from high-end heavy hitters, such as Burberry, Bottega Veneta, Gucci, Fendi, Michael Kors, Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton, and Balenciaga, to more casual labels like Nike, Guess, Lids, and Brighton. Men's styles abound at Tom Ford, John Varvatos, Ralph Lauren, and Canali. Gaze at stunning jewelry, watches, and crystal works at Baccarat, Swarovski, Breitling, Tiffany & Co., Pandora, Hublot, and David Yurman. Apple offers a whole host of electronics. And don't forget to get the perfect keepsake from Field of Dreams. When all this walking/shopping brings on the inevitable hunger, head to The Palm or Carmine's Italian, Water Grill, RPM, or Joe's Seafood, Steak & Stone Crab.

The Gardens Mall

Fodor's Choice

One of the most refined big shopping malls in America, the 160-store Gardens Mall in northern Palm Beach County has stores like Chanel, Tory Burch, Louis Vuitton, and David Yurman, along with Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom. There are also plenty of reasonably priced national retailers like H&M and Abercrombie & Fitch, Bloomingdale's, and Macy's. This beautiful mall has prolific seating pavilions, making it a great place to spend a humid summer afternoon.

Grand Canal Shoppes

North Strip Fodor's Choice

This is one of the most unforgettable shopping experiences on the Strip. Duck into shops like Field of Dreams, Breathe, or Peter Lik's gallery of fine-art photography. Amble under blue-sky ceilings alongside the Grand Canal. All roads, balustraded bridges, and waterways lead to St. Mark's Square, an enormous open space filled with Italian opera singers and costumed performers. Watch for the living statues, who will intrigue and amuse. If you need to take a load off, hail a gondola. Closer to The Palazzo, find powerhouse names such as Michael Kors and Tory Burch; shoe lovers will swoon over the Jimmy Choo boutique.

One Daytona

Fodor's Choice

A massive shopping, dining, and entertainment complex across from the Daytona International Speedway, One Daytona is anchored by a 12-screen luxury movie theater and a Bass Pro Shops Outpost. The complex also includes 4 Rivers Smokehouse, Jeremiah's Italian Ice, Game Time, and two hotels.

Royal Hawaiian Center

Waikiki Fodor's Choice

This three-block-long center has more than 110 establishments, including an Apple Store and ABC Store, as well as local gems, such as Oiwi Ocean Gear, Mana Up, Fighting Eel, Honolulu Cookie Company, Koi Honolulu, Hawaiian Island Arts, Island Soap & Candleworks, and Royal Hawaiian Quilts. In addition to a number of restaurants, you can dine at the Waikiki Food Hall. Complimentary cultural classes, a theater, and nightly outdoor entertainment round out the offerings. Note for drivers: the center offers free parking for three hours with validation at shops and restaurants.

The Shops at Crystals

Center Strip Fodor's Choice

Two levels of opulent boutiques, restaurants, and artistic flourishes are housed within the dramatic steel-and-glass structure that envelops The Shops at Crystals shopping venue on the Aria Campus. True to its gleaming facade, scads of swanky designer apparel and accessories from fashion's crème de la crème line the clean, minimalist confines within. Touch-screen directories guide you to brands such as Prada, Bulgari, Lanvin, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Stella McCartney, Chanel, and Tom Ford. Come dressed to impress if you intend to do anything more than ogle the latest and greatest offerings; some of the salespeople here can be more haughty than the couture.

Louis Vuitton's largest location in the United States is here, with two levels that extend beyond leather goods to include men and women's ready-to-wear, shoes, jewelry, textiles, ties, and more.

After a long day of shopping, catch dinner at Mastro's Ocean Club (sitting inside a tree house). Afterward, stroll outdoors to cross the Sky Bridge to see the 4-ton sculpture of a blue-and-red typewriter eraser by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen.  For a fun way to access The Shops at Crystals, ride the sleek and silent Aria Express, the Campus's free electric tram with a fantastic elevated view of the complex.

The Superette

Seaport Fodor's Choice

While not completely hidden away, it's not terribly easy to stumble upon The Superette, a collection of high-end, niche retailers all centered around an open-air courtyard. Options include jewelry at Brave Daughters, yoga-inspired sportswear at Alo, personalized fragrances at Le Labo, and jeans at Injeanius. There are a few fast-casual places to eat, too, so you can spend a few hours shopping and snacking.

Thornes Marketplace

Fodor's Choice

A quintessential stop on any Northampton visit—and not just because the market's centrally located garage is your best bet for convenient parking—Thornes contains an eclectic lineup of shops ranging from Glimpse of Tibet for Tibetan handicrafts to Herrell's Ice Cream and Fire Type Chocolates for sweets. Also here are Booklink Booksellers, Cedar Chest, a yoga studio, a chair-massage parlor, and clothing and jewelry stores.

Whalers Village

Fodor's Choice

Chic Whalers Village has wonderful oceanfront restaurants and shops in the heart of Kaanapali. Upscale haunts include Louis Vuitton and Tourneau, and beautyphiles can get their fix at Sephora. Elegant home accessories at Martin and MacArthur and Totally Hawaiian Gift Gallery are perfect Hawaii-made souvenirs, while the many great surf and swimwear shops will prepare you for a day at the beach. Kids will fall in love with the whimsical two-story climbing structure at the lower courtyard. The outdoor mall also offers free weekly entertainment, lei-making classes, and hula lessons; check its website for a complete schedule.

Union Station

Capitol Hill

Orhancam | Dreamstime.com

Resplendent with marble floors and vaulted ceilings, Union Station is a shopping mall as well as a train terminal. It also has restaurants and a food court with everything from sushi and smoothies to poke bowls. The east hall is filled with vendors of expensive domestic and international wares who sell from open stalls. From April through October, an outdoor market is held Monday to Saturday with dozens of vendors selling fresh produce, baked goods and quick snacks, and arts and crafts. Appian Way Shops

Center Strip

A majestic replica of Michelangelo's David in Carrara marble marks the entrance to the Appian Way Shops, dominated by the massive King Baby, with its broad array of apparel, jewelry, and accessories. The slightly-less-massive Appian Way Essentials carries—you guessed it—pretty much everything essential for your stay. Carina can spiff up your wardrobe with styles for the clubs, for cruising the Strip, and for everything in between, including handbags and jewelry. Misura fills the same niche for men, with classic, funky, and sexy fashions and accessories. If you work up an appetite while shopping, know that nearby you'll find the quick-service Pronto from Giada De Laurentiis and Dominique Ansel Las Vegas, with pastries and sandwiches. Nobu's just across the Appian Way.

The Arcade Providence

Built in 1828, America's oldest indoor shopping mall has a handful of restaurants on its first floor and one signature shop, the Lovecraft Arts & Sciences Council, for quirky gifts and books on the supernatural by Providence's own H. P. Lovecraft and other authors. The rest of the former retail space has been converted into microloft apartments. The Greek Revival building has entrances on both Westminster and Weybosset Streets.

The Bellevue Collection

In this impressive trifecta of shopping centers, you'll find just about any chain store you've heard of (and some that you haven't). Bellevue Square's wide walkways and benches, its many children's clothing stores, kid's hair salon, and first-floor play area make this a great place for little ones, too. A variety of local restaurant groups and national chains serve quick, good casual food, and you can park for free in the attached garage. Take the sky bridge to Lincoln Square to catch a flick at their 16-screen cinema, organize your life at the Container Store, or sample an assortment of other retail outlets. Eat at one of the several high-end restaurants, the famous Din Tai Fung, or the upscale food court. Bellevue Place, across from Lincoln Square, hosts a variety of stores, restaurants, and a Fonte Coffee Roaster. From Black Friday through Christmas Eve, thousands of people line Bellevue Way between the shopping centers every night at 7 pm to experience the festive and free Snowflake Lane extravaganza.

Boston Innovation and Design Building

Seaport

Once an Army storehouse, this building is now a hub of innovation and entrepreneurship that's home to the Boston Design Center, the award-winning Chickadee restaurant, numerous other dining spots, home furnishing and decor shops, and the Reebok headquarters store. Boulevard Mall

East Side

Like many an indoor mall, Las Vegas's first (it opened in 1968) was in danger of becoming a "ghost mall" before new owners began a creative transformation. While some of the bygone anchor stores are now given over to non-retail clients (the old Sears is now a truck-driving school), some time-honored retail chain stores remain and are surrounded with more activity- and entertainment-oriented draws: a Galaxy cineplex with the city's largest indoor movie screen, a SeaQuest Aquarium, and Rex Center, a dinosaur-themed indoor amusement park with arcade games and bumper cars. The Mercado is a separately themed area styled like a street market, with dozens of vendors in small retail kiosks, and a food court with at least 10 south-of-the-border choices. It's worth winding through the Mercado, which has more food-truck style Mexican/Central American offerings.

Brookfield Place

Financial District

Once called the Winter Garden, this expanded mall and event destination in the World Financial Center stands out for its towering indoor palm trees, New York Harbor and WTC plaza views, and luxury stores, including downtown outlets for Salvatore Ferragamo, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton, not to mention more down-to-earth shopping at J.Crew, Bonobos, and Lululemon. More interesting might be the dining options, including the best food court downtown, Hudson Eats (which has Black Seed Bagel, Dos Toros Taqueria, and Ani Ramen), among many other offerings. On the ground floor is Le District, a kind of Eataly for French cuisine. Outside in summer is an outdoor dining area with food stands (and a bar); in winter it becomes an ice-skating rink. Look out for events both during the week and on weekends year-round.

Buchanan Mall

Japantown

The shops lining this open-air mall next to the Peace Plaza (look for the giant pagoda) are geared more toward locals, but there are some fun Japanese-goods stores here, too. Start your exploration with exquisite Japanese homewares in a gallery-like space at SF76 ( 1758 Buchanan St.  www.sf-76.com). Look for Hasami and Tomoro pottery and ceramics by local artists. It's easy to spend hours among the fabulous origami and craft papers at Paper Tree ( 1743 Buchanan St.  paper-tree.com). After shop browsing, have a seat on the steps around local artist Ruth Asawa's twin origami-style fountains, which sit in the middle of the mall. Wrap up a visit with lunch at Hinodeya Ramen ( 1737 Buchanan St.  hinodeyaramen.com), serving lighter dashi (clear-broth) ramen, a rarity in the city.

CambridgeSide Galleria

Kendall Square

This recently redone but basic two-story mall boasts more than 120 stores, a food court, and sit-down restaurants, but has big changes in the works. As part of an ongoing redevelopment, CanalSide, a new food hall experience opened in late 2024, along with 2 million square feet of future life science, retail, office, residential, and hotel spaces. The mall is a big draw for local high-school kids and an easy walk from the Museum of Science.

Food choices range from Cantonese street food at Joe's Steam Rice Roll to Filipino tacos at Mucho Sarap to bubble tea at Lazy Sundaes.
