Margaritaville

A youngish, touristy crowd mixes with aging Parrot Heads. It's owned by former Key West resident and recording star Jimmy Buffett, who has been known to perform here. The drink of choice is, of course, a margarita, made with Jimmy's own brand of Margaritaville tequila. There's live music nightly, as well as lunch and dinner.

Marie's Crisis

West Village

Regardless of whatever \"Marie's crisis\" was or is (each employee seems to have a different story), all the customers here know all the words to show tunes you've never even heard of. Down enough drinks at this ultrafun West Village joint and you'll be singing along, even if you don't know all the lyrics. There's only one rule here: no songs will be played (and sung) by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Marker 48 Brewing

One of the best breweries north of Pinellas and Hillsborough counties, this 6,000-square-foot facility in Hernando County has a large tasting room and beer garden. There’s always something going on: live music every weekend, trivia, and karaoke during the week. Those interested in how the beer is made can tour the brewery on Saturday afternoons.

Market Avenue Wine Bar

Ohio City

Arguably the best-stocked wine bar in Cleveland, the Market Avenue Wine Bar has a warm, snug interior, and seasonal alfresco seating is ideal for sipping Riesling, Pinot Noir, or Malbec. It's open 365 days a year.

Markey's Bar

Bywater

The embodiment of a blue-collar New Orleans neighborhood bar, Markey's has plenty of beer on tap, sports playing on flat screens, and outside tables. During baseball season, games are broadcast via satellite. The drinks are potent and the pool table is free.

Marquee Nightclub & Dayclub

Center Strip

This cavernous joint boasts three distinctive spaces and seven bars spread across two levels. In The Main Room, stadium-style seating surrounds the dance floor, and four-story LED screens and projection walls display light and image shows customized for every performer. For a more intimate experience, check out The Boom Box, a smaller room (usually featuring something other than house music) with windows overlooking the Strip. On the top level, The Library provides a respite from the thumping downstairs with dark wood, books (actual books!), and billiard tables. Marquee Dayclub, with two pools, several bars, a gaming area, and DJs all day long, used to be ONLY a spring-and-summer spot, but the 50-foot-high heated dome—and 90-degree pool water—has changed all that.

Martuni's

A mixed crowd enjoys cocktails in the semi-refined environment of this piano bar where the Castro, the Mission, and Hayes Valley intersect; variations on the martini and different fruit-flavored lemon drops are a specialty. This is not the place for innovative mixology. In the intimate back room a pianist plays nightly, and patrons take turns boisterously singing show tunes. Martuni's often gets busy after symphony and opera performances—Davies Hall and the Opera House are both within walking distance.

Marty's Martini Bar

Andersonville

Tucked onto a side street slightly removed from Andersonville's main stretch of Clark Street, minuscule Marty’s has been serving up some of the tastiest cocktails in the neighborhood for two decades. Roughly the size of a one-bedroom apartment, the bar can get very crowded, so come early in the night (or just escape to the outdoor patio).

Martyrs'

Roscoe Village

Martyrs' brings mostly local rock bands (and the occasional major-label act) to North Center, a small neighborhood sandwiched between Lincoln Square and Roscoe Village. Music fans can see the stage from just about any corner of the bar, while the more rhythmically inclined gyrate in the large standing-room area. A mural opposite the stage memorializes late rock greats.

Maryhill Winery Tasting Room & Wine Bar

Enjoy a full tasting, or sit back with a glass or bottle over a plate of Olympia Provisions charcuterie or a Dungeness crab roll at this big, rambling tasting room and bistro on Vancouver's scenic waterfront. At this outpost of the famous winery in the eastern Columbia gorge, both the indoor and outdoor tables offer great views of Grant Street Pier and the Columbia River.

Maryland Live!

Just 12 miles south of downtown on Interstate 95, Maryland Live! is a $500 million gaming and entertainment complex. It's open 24/7 and has more than 4,000 Vegas-style slot machines, 52 poker tables, and games such as Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, Baccarat, and Texas Hold 'Em, to name a few. Even your drink comes with bells and whistles: The interactive casino bar is flanked by more than 100 LED screens, allowing you to place bets along with your drink order. There are six on-site restaurants, including Phillips Seafood, The Cheesecake Factory, and The Prime Rib, ensuring that every craving will be satisfied—be it for steak, Maryland crabs, burgers, or Ramen noodles. There is also an enormous all-you-can-eat buffet. Ram’s Head Center Stage features nationally known musical acts. Next door to the casino you’ll find the Arundel Mills Outlet Mall.

The Mask-Querade Bar

Hidden away in an unassuming strip mall, this friendly establishment is one of the Big Island's most venerable gay bars. Drag shows, darts, hot DJs, live music, karaoke, drink specials, fiestas, and Sunday barbecues are included in the roster of weekly events.

Max's Taphouse

Fells Point

The enormous bar at Max's Taphouse is heaven for beer lovers—it boasts an artillery range of taps, with more than 140 draft brews and about 1,200 more in bottles. Think of it as an educational experience, as you'll want to sample a frosty pint you've never heard of before. Max's is located in the center of Fells Point, where tourists mix with locals, who often stop in to catch an Orioles or Ravens game. A tasty menu of bar favorites, such as tater tots served in a bowl with pulled pork, cheese, and sour cream, adds depth to the experience.

Maxan Jazz

West Side

Tucked into a grungy strip mall behind Blueberry Hill diner lies a real treat, a dedicated jazz club, which is rare enough in Las Vegas, but even more valuable for folks who want to hear live music before the late evening: the bands start at 7 pm nightly (Thursday–Monday). The club caters to its performers, with a stage spanning the width of one wall and a real grand piano for musicians, who often play on nights off from their \"real\" jobs on the Strip. The food menu leans heavy on sushi, so those who come hungry or aren’t fans of sushi might want to dine elsewhere. A $25 minimum ($40 on weekends) can be applied to both drinks and food. Lately, Maxan has also been opening for lunch, without the live music.

Maxwell Park

Shaw

At Maxwell Park, dinner and dessert are both a glass of wine. The themed menu, which changes monthly, offers more than 50 wines by the glass. Try a sweet wine or aperitif for dessert, or mix things up with a cocktail, perhaps a seasonal gin and homemade tonic. If you don’t know what you want, ask one of the trained sommeliers about the 500 labels on the bottle list, or have a 2.5-ounce tasting glass (just watch the prices because there are some rare wines here). Enjoy the outdoor patio, which is heated in winter, or cozy into the bar, open nightly at 5.

The Mayfair Supper Club

Center Strip

Whatever the name—and past incarnations include Hyde and Fontana Bar—this posh ultralounge is prime real estate inside the Bellagio, famous for its front-and-center view overlooking the Bellagio fountains. As the name suggests, the latest incarnation hearkens back to an earlier era, with dinner and live entertainment offered in the same room, which drips with the chic atmosphere of a black-and-white movie from the 1930s. Mayfair After Dark begins at 11 pm Fridays and Saturdays.

The Mayflower

Tiny, candlelit, and discreet, this attitude-free cocktail den is equally suited to a romantic tryst, casual nightcap, or predinner drink while awaiting your table at Aita, the owners' Italian restaurant next door. The bar is located in a carriage house and, unlike many other watering holes in the neighborhood, usually stays open until 2 or 3 am.

McGillin's Olde Ale House

Midtown Village & The Gayborhood

For longevity alone, McGillin's stands proud. Open since 1860, it's the oldest continually operating pub in the city, as well as one of the oldest in the country. But though there are nostalgic touches, it's a modern watering hole, featuring a bevy of TVs for sports and hugely popular karaoke nights. The beer list, featuring 30 choices on draft, tends toward the local, including a series of signature house ales brewed by Adamstown, Pennsylvania's Stoudts.

McGrath's Irish Pub

On Friday and Saturday, listen to live Irish music and sip Guinness draft or a Vermont Half, which splits it with Long Trail Ale, at the Inn at Long Trail's pub. The food's good, too.

McKenzie River Pizza, Grill & Pub

Summerlin South

Beer and pizza are in high demand at this lively sports bar on the second floor of City National Arena. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner most days, and is particularly hopping during Vegas Golden Knights games, when locals turn out to watch on big-screen televisions and enjoy food and drink specials. The connection to the Knights here runs deep; City National serves as the team’s practice facility, and you can watch practices for free on certain days.

McMenamins

Mount Airy

This lively, family-friendly Mount Airy favorite has a fantastic choice of craft beer on tap, plus pretty good burgers, fish-and-chips, and dinner specials.

McMenamins Crystal Ballroom

With a 7,500-square-foot spring-loaded dance floor built on ball bearings to ramp up the energy, this historic former dance hall draws local, regional, and national acts most nights of the week. Past performers include Sleater-Kinney, Jefferson Airplane, Emmylou Harris, Tame Impala, and Angel Olsen.

McP's Taphouse Grill

You can hear live bands—rock, jazz, blues, alternative—on most nights at McP's while you sample a few of the 40 beers on draft. Lunch and dinner (Irish and California cuisine) are served daily.

McSorley's Beach Pub

Beachfront

This modern take on a classic Irish pub offers standard pub fun—from a jukebox to 35 beers on tap—but remains wildly popular thanks to its location right across from Fort Lauderdale Beach. Indeed, it's one of the few places on the beach to get an affordable drink and attracts its fair share of tourists and locals. Upstairs, the pub has a second lounge that's far clubbier, as well as a rooftop terrace, and downstairs features a game room with pool, beer pong, and more.

McSorley's Old Ale House

East Village

A beloved neighborhood institution, McSorley's is one of New York's oldest saloons (established in 1854) and the motto on the current menu says, \"We were here before you were born.\" The menu is simple: there's just two kinds of beer—McSorley's Light and McSorley's Dark—and the pub food is better than you'd expect. Weekends get busy (don't even think about getting in the door on St. Patrick's Day) but it's perfect for a cozy afternoon. Note that it's cash only.

Meadowlark Brewing

With two locations in Montana, one in Billings and one in Sidney, this new craft brewery (with food) came about when owner Travis Peterson, a civil engineer by trade and beer enthusiast on the side, decided to make his hobby his business. The brews here tell the story. Choose from mainstays like Violet Delights (a fruity tart ale) and the Black Steer’s Tookus (a dark oatmeal stout), or seasonal brews like Squashtober and Fungus Shui. Nightlife in Billings ends early, and this brewery is open only until 9 pm; it's also a kid-friendly option for nightlife. There's a huge outdoor patio and a firepit, and they serve nonalcoholic drinks like cream soda.

Mean Eyed Cat

West Austin

Now overshadowed by towering condos, this little shack of a bar owes its name (and overall atmosphere) to the Man in Black. Originally a chainsaw repair shop, this dive is a local cult favorite, with worn barnwood walls covered with tattered Johnny Cash memorabilia and a shabby-chic patio with an assortment of tables where patrons can enjoy a wide selection of beers and cocktails, some of which are deeply discounted during their weekday happy hour (4–8 pm).
