Miss B's Coconut Club

Mission Beach

Enjoy Caribbean-inspired fare and plenty of rum drinks at this pink-and-teal tropical getaway. Miss B's appeals to a younger, sometimes raucous crowd at night, but during the day it provides a pleasant oasis just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Mission Beach's busy boardwalk, though it's an easy walk from there. Parking can be difficult in this more residential and vacation rental-heavy area, but once you find a seat either indoors or on the outdoor patio, be sure to order a plate of jerk chicken, sample one of their many rum cocktails, and plenty of live sports on one of their many TVs.

    Miss Favela Brazilian Botequim

The flag outside announces Miss Favela's allegiance to Brazil—a favela is a Brazilian slum—and the theme continues inside, where the brick walls are painted green and yellow, and rickety metal tables are covered in brightly colored oilcloth. There are Brazilian specialties for lunch and dinner, but after 10 pm the tables are cleared and the place becomes an all-out dance party, fueled by pitchers of caipirinhas, Brazil's cachaça-laced favorite drink. On Saturday, people dance samba to a live band until the DJ takes over and the vibe becomes more clubby.

    Miss Mae's

    Uptown

In a city as reliant on the service industry as New Orleans, 24/7 dive bars like Miss Mae's are essential for giving late-shift workers a place to unwind with a drink. With very cheap drinks (cash only) and plenty of bar games, you'll find something going on at Miss Mae's at any hour of the day or night. If you're looking for fun interactions and people-watching on a budget, give it a try.

    Recommended Fodor's Video

    The Mix

Tacoma has a sizable gay community, and this friendly, welcoming bar with a nice-size dance floor and fun karaoke parties is the top nightspot among LGBTQ folks. It's in the heart of the Theater District.

    Mo's By the River

Patrons of this under-the-radar wine bar in a residential area a block from the Truckee River tend to linger over the affordable wines by the glass or bottle, especially on temperate days when the outdoor patio beckons. California wines are well represented, but the selection encompasses the major world regions. It's best to call ahead before coming here.

    Moby Dick

    Castro

This quintessential neighborhood watering hole outfitted with a pool table and pinball machines has TV screens playing pop videos and music. A giant fish tank sits over the bar, giving shy types a place to rest their gaze while taking a shot of liquid courage. Casually dressed couples and guys with nothing to prove frequent this place, but there's pickup potential, too. Like many smaller dive bars, it's cash only.

Ski bums and snowboarders come together to tip back a few at this retro-fun 1950s watering hole in the A-frame at the base of Brighton Ski Resort.

    Molly McGuire's

    Wilmington Island
Tucked away in a strip mall, this shady oasis offers indoor and outdoor bars, trivia nights, and live music on Fridays. A full menu and creative cocktail lineup make it a great place to gather with friends, watch the big game, or just while away the evening.

    Molly's at the Market

    French Quarter

Grab a perch almost any time of day at one of the best-known and most popular bars along the far stretch of Decatur Street, where you'll find perfect pints of Guinness, generously poured cocktails, and gregarious bartenders. From a window seat, you can watch the crowds of shop-goers, sightseers, and all-day revelers. Everyone from politicians to punk rockers eventually drifts through these doors.

    MoMo's

    The Monk's Kettle

Choosing the city's "best beer bar" is an impossible task, but there is no doubt that this intimate, friendly destination is one of them. The tap list captivates the most ardent beer geeks, the bottle list is as deep as many fine-dining restaurants' wine lists, and the gastropub cuisine is particularly impressive.

Monkey Bar at Town and Country Resort

    Mission Valley

Swing by the Monkey Bar in the lobby of the Town and Country Resort for small bites, firepits, and plenty of drinks to choose from. Happy hour runs Sunday through Thursday from 4 to 6 pm. Having more than one cocktail? Try the Drunken Monkey to collect a variety of colorful monkey garnishes.

    The Monster

    West Village

This \"Monster\" is a friendly one. This local-favorite gay bar has anchored its prime corner spot since 1969 and still serves as a lively piano bar and watering hole at street level, with an energetic disco downstairs that features a variety of nightly events, including Sunday tea dances.

    Montana

Lived-in booths and a welcoming atmosphere keep this place packed with everyone from couples on a first date to groups of old friends. As an anchor to the East Olive bar strip, it makes for excellent people-watching, either from the inside looking out or from the co-opted piece of sidewalk called a "parklet" that serves as the patio. The specialty is the cocktails on tap, particularly the Moscow Mule, owing in part to co-owner Rachel Marshall's other businesses, a ginger beer company.

    Montana Jack

Enjoy live music where the dancing often spills out onto the deck.

    Montauket

The locals will tell you that this is "a hidden gem," "a kind of a secret around here." Chances are, they would prefer to keep it a secret. They come here for one reason only—to watch the sun lower in the sky, lighting up the bluffs surrounding beautiful Fort Pond. You'll meet nice people at the outdoor daiquiri bar, and even sometimes see kids running around the bar or playing horseshoes. If you want to have a meal with your sunset, a variety of options includes jerk chicken wings, salads, wraps, seafood, and lobster entrees.

    Monte Vista Cocktail Lounge

    Downtown

This lounge in the historic Hotel Monte Vista packs 'em in three nights a week with live blues, jazz, classic rock, and punk.

    Montecristo Cigar Bar

    Center Strip

Cigars team up with whiskeys (including barrels and flights) and small bites at this respite in the center of the resort. Find up to 1,000 cigars housed in a climate-controlled humidor, one of the largest in the city. If you're a sports fan, take in the fan cave with its 208-inch video wall and lots of screens. You can bring your own cigars; there's a $10 cutting fee. Become a member for discounts on beverages. There's also a location at Paris Las Vegas.

    Montgomery Distillery Tasting Room

Sample high-quality, locally made gin, vodka, aquavit, and an award-winning single malt whiskey at the beautiful and now-famous distillery. Be warned, however, that there's a two-drink maximum per customer, which will make it difficult to choose from the long list of handcrafted cocktails. Try the Smoke Tones, made from homemade Quick Silver vodka, grapefruit, habanero tincture, and a smoked salt rim; or The Dude Abides, with vodka, coffee, coffee liqueur, and milk. They also make a great riff on the Old Fashioned, with Sudden Wisdom Rye and Creole Bitters. Purchase whole bottles over at Grizzly Liquor, a few blocks away on Spruce Street.

    Monzú Italian Oven + Bar

    West Side

This festive room with an \"outdoor piazza\" vibe is a worthy Italian restaurant in its own right (it has family ties to Nora's a block or so away). But what really sets it apart is the live entertainment on weekends. The place turns into more of a cabaret, starting after the dinner rush at 8:30 pm. The house songstress is co-owner Naomi Mauro, but likeminded jazz vocalists and trios round out the calendar.

    Moodright's

Offering an old-school dive vibe without the grime, Moodright's is a sweet place to gather for a game of pool, a few rounds of duckpin bowling (like traditional bowling, but with smaller pins) or to just nurse your favorite beer in one of the comfy vinyl booths. Monday is Bingo Night, and if you're intrigued by the duckpin bowling, check out the pros on Wednesday league nights.

    The Moon

Since 1985, The Moon has been one of the capital city's most active nightclubs, with live bands and DJs offering music for all tastes—rap, R&B, country, rock, and reggae, to name a few.

Moon River Brewing Company & Beer Garden

Savannah's first microbrewery, Moon River occupies a historic building that once served as a hotel, as well as a lumber and coal warehouse. The adjacent outdoor beer garden is known for great people-watching, live music, and breezes off the nearby river. Check out the amazing variety of handcrafted lagers, ales, and wheat beers, including the White Lady, named for this famously haunted building's most well-known apparition. A sweet potato harvest ale is available in autumn months, and all brews are nicely complimented by an array of pub-style dishes and snacks.

    Moongate Lounge

    Chinatown

The upstairs, slightly more casual and hip bar/lounge companion to Mister Jiu's is a destination in its own right. Lunar themes are everywhere, from the drinks' names and colors to the mystical lighting and design accents in a suave space that previously was a banquet room.

    Moonshine & Ale

This rock-and-roll piano bar can be mellow during the week, but it's usually packed and raucous on the weekends. There's a live band karaoke on Thursdays, and an all-request piano show on Fridays and Saturdays that turns into a massive group sing-along—a great activity to take part in after a day of tubing!

    Moose Jaw

The Moose Jaw is a locals' hangout. Pool tables and arcade games beckon, and a plethora of old-time photographs, trophies, and newspaper articles makes the barn-wood walls all but invisible.

    Moose's Saloon

Cowboy boots and sneakers kick up the sawdust and peanut shells on the floor at the legendary Moose's Saloon, where tunes from the jukebox get the raucous crowd moving. You can order pizza or a hearty sandwich to go with your beer. Leave your mark by carving your name on one of the walls.
