Located on the middle level of George's at the Cove, this hip, casual, and somewhat more affordable hangout is always buzzing with activity—especially on weekends. Recommended Fodor's Video

Germaine's Luau

More than 3 million visitors have come to this luau, held about 45 minutes west of Waikiki in light traffic. Widely considered one of the most folksy and laid-back, Germaine's offers a tasty, multicourse, all-you-can-eat buffet. Admission includes the buffet and one drink to three drinks (depending on the package). It's held Tuesday to Sunday at 6.

GhostBar

West Side

Perched atop the Palms, this apex of ultralounges was one of the first in Las Vegas to put a public area on top of a hotel tower to offer a glassed-in view of the city. Step outside and you'll find that the outdoor \"Ghostdeck\" is cantilevered over the side of the building, with a Plexiglas platform that allows revelers to look down 450 feet. For the views of the Strip skyline from the 55th floor alone, it's worth the effort. GhostBar usually opens by 9 pm, sometimes as early as 7 pm to let older folks have a gander before the younger club crowd moves in. Name DJs keep the latter hopping as the night goes on.

The Gibson Room at Maggie Mae's

Sixth Street District

One of the top spots for live music on the perpetually vibrant East Sixth Street since 1978, the Gibson Room is one of famed bar Maggie Mae's music spaces and has its own entrance on the other side of the building. Sponsored by Gibson Guitars, this exclusive music venue is an artful homage to some of the world’s greatest rock artists, styled with Gibson guitars associated with legendary musicians like Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix. Regular shows are open to the public, especially during SXSW, but the venue also hosts private events.

Gigantic Brewing

This well-respected craft brewer is in a slightly off-the-beaten-path industrial area that doesn't have a whole lot going on, but this in no way keeps it from pulling in a consistently big crowd most days, and especially on weekend afternoons, when folks sip Gigantic's first-rate beer on the front patio. In addition to conventional Northwest-style IPAs and some terrific German ales, the brewery produces interesting seasonal and barrel-aged varieties. There are additional locations in Hawthorne and in Northeast.

Gilley's Dallas

South Side

Gilley's Dallas is a giant honky-tonk with live music (mostly country), a 10,000-square-foot dance floor, and a mechanical bull. It's just south of Downtown.

The Gin Joint

The cocktails here—frothy fizzes, slings, smashes, and juleps—are retro, some dating back to before Prohibition. The bartenders don bow ties and suspenders, but the atmosphere is utterly contemporary, with slick gray walls, butcher-block tabletops, and subtle lighting. The kitchen serves up small plates like oysters, arugula salad, and Coca-Cola--braised ham.

Ginny's Supper Club

Harlem

Surprisingly, the basement of Red Rooster has one of the best jazz clubs in Harlem, Ginny's Supper Club. Here, guests can enjoy the fine flavors of one of Harlem's most popular eateries while enjoying the live music during their Sunday gospel brunch. Priced at $80 per person, feast on an all-you-can-eat buffet with the choice of two showtimes; one at 11 am and a second one at 1:15 pm. It is highly advisable to make reservations in advance via OpenTable. If you are less interested in brunch but still curious in checking out this secret enclave, Ginny's Supper Club frequently hosts ticketed events.

Ginny's Supperclub

Harlem

Head downstairs from Marcus Samuelsson's renowned Red Rooster restaurant and find yourself in a glamorous lounge that seems right out of the 1920s. The cocktails are classic with a modern flair, and there is live music and/or DJs throughout the week, as well as a Sunday gospel brunch. Walk-ins are welcome, but advance reservations are recommended.

Gipsy Nightclub

Paradise Road

If this club isn't the way you remember it, it's not the drinks affecting your memory. Gipsy occupies the same footprint as the legendary gay club of yore, but that's about it. A $4 million reconstruction created a new indoor-outdoor club and sushi bar on the same property. The new building displays a considerably more upscale vibe, including state-of-the-art lighting, a video wall, and floral-themed touches evoking the Parisian showgirl costumes of classic Vegas. It shares the same ownership as nearby Piranha, so Gipsy has honed in on drag performances—including a Saturday drag brunch—while Piranha is more the wild dance club Gipsy was back in the day.

Girdwood Brewing Company

Tall windows frame the Chugach Mountains and old skis fence the patio at this airy brewery, opened by twin brothers, head brewers, and noted powder hounds Rory and Brett Marenco. Like all Anchorage breweries, Girdwood Brewing Company closes by 9 pm, so make sure to end your adventures on the nearby tides, trails, and mountaintops early enough to grab a pint.

The Globe Pub

North Center

If you're in search of some footy on the telly, a proper pint of cider or stout, or pub grub like shepherd's pie or a full English fry-up breakfast, The Globe Pub should be atop your list. This North Center bar and grill is decked out wall-to-wall inside with soccer jerseys and team garb, while a patio allows for sunnier sipping in warmer weather.

Gman Tavern

Lakeview

Just up the street from Wrigley Field, Gman Tavern is a welcoming neighborhood tavern whose vibe is the opposite of the many rowdy sports bars nearby. The back room is outfitted with a small stage, a full bar, and a top-notch sound system for live music and comedy shows (it's also where a scene from The Color Of Money was filmed). In the front room, the well-stocked jukebox and well-curated beer list keep regulars and Cubs fans coming back.

Goat Soup and Whiskey

Across from Mountain View Plaza, the Goat Soup and Whiskey is filled year-round with twenty- and thirtysomethings drinking whiskey and beer after a day on the mountain. There's live music during ski season and pool tournaments that draw crowds to the laid-back bar.

The Goat's Beard

Manayunk

Offering a more relaxed vibe than your average Main Street bar, the Goat's Beard specializes in American bistro-style cooking, local beers, and curated spirits (especially whiskey), with an emphasis on local offerings. The Detroit-style pizza is highly recommended.

Gold Dust Meridian

Southeast

On warm evenings, break from the chatter-filled midcentury-modern interior bar—with its teakwood ceiling and deep-booth seating—and snag a sidewalk table, where you can take in the activity of funky Hawthorne Boulevard. This place packs 'em in early, thanks to a generous happy hour that begins daily at 2 and continues until 8 pm—more than enough time to get happy. Wash down a few discounted craft cocktails with an order of steamed clams in lemongrass-coconut broth or marionberry-habanero chicken wings.

Golden Bee

Remnants of a 19th-century English pub were discovered in a warehouse in New York City in the 1950s and moved to the Broadmoor site where the original mahogany bar, wood carvings, mirrors, and tin ceilings still define the Golden Bee's charm. The old-fashioned bar features a piano player leading sing-alongs. Watch out for the bees—as part of a long-standing tradition, they flick bee stickers into the audience during the show.

The Golden Lantern

French Quarter

The Lower Quarter has become a lot more upscale since this neighborhood gay haunt's heyday, but (the officially named) Tubby's Golden Lantern soldiers on. The bartender's whim determines the music, the drinks are strong, and happy hour runs from noon to 8 pm Monday and Tuesday, and from 8 am to 8 pm every other day. The bar is best known as ground zero for the annual Southern Decadence drag parade, when a crowd gathers out front for the kick-off. It's cash only.

Golden Nugget Atlantic City

The former home of the Trump Marina, the refurbished and rebranded waterside casino markets itself toward a raucous younger crowd by booking mixed martial arts events, rock tribute and cover bands, and bawdy comedians. Gamblers tear into steaks at Vic & Anthony's or take in ocean views and seafood at the Chart House before hitting the 80,000 square-foot gaming floor. The hotel runs the adjacent state marina and is one of the only casinos in town you can arrive by yacht.

Golden Saloon

Eat and drink with locals and seasonal guides at the only bar in town, right on the main drag. Thursday is open mic night featuring old-favorite singalong songs and tall-tale spoken-word performances. On weekend nights, there's sure to be live music outside on the grass.

Goldie's

Downtown

Operating out of a former firehouse, Goldie's swings open its double garage doors to host events like live music, open mic nights, and the occasional drag show. The bar—housed in a converted 1956 Airstream trailer—serves up beer, cocktails, and slushies, with rotating food trucks pulling up to the colorful patio.

Good Friends

French Quarter

With its tasteful decor and reasonable volume level, this is a slightly more upscale, sedate alternative to the blasting disco bars down the street. The Queen's Head Pub on the second floor, open weekends, has darts, a wraparound balcony, and respectable martinis. Brush up on your show tunes at the popular Sunday afternoon piano sing-along.

The Good Good

Harlem

The east side of Harlem doesn't get nearly as much love as it should, and The Good Good is proof in the pudding that, while off the beaten path, the area is just as worth exploring. This Black female--owned cocktail bar is serving up classics but in elevated form, like the Good Good Daiquiri, made with dark rum, fresh lime, and demerara syrup. Zero-proof cocktails are plentiful at only $8 a pop, but you'd be remiss to not order some food here, too. Plant-based diners will be pleased to see the \"earth\" portion of the menu, with offerings like jerk mushrooms and roasted yams that have a crunch that rivals that of fried chicken thanks to its coating in honey. But put that theory to the test and try their hot honey fried, too, one of the crispiest birds in the neighborhood.

The Good Lion

The cocktail menu at this intimate neighborhood bar near The Granada Theatre changes seasonally, depending on what's available at the local produce markets. All juices are organic and squeezed fresh daily, and all syrups are made in-house with organic produce and sweeteners.

The Good Room

Greenpoint
DJs spin tunes while a cool crowd dances under the disco ball at this happening nightclub, which made a cameo on Aziz Ansari's hit Netflix series, Master of None. The bar is adjacent to the dance floor, and there's a smaller side room if you want a breather.
