Fodor's Review

Like switching to a wide-screen television, the Museum of the Moving Image is twice as nice as it was before the 2011 expansion and renovation. The Thomas Leeser design includes a three-story addition, new theaters, and a modern entryway. The museum is full of Hollywood and television memorabilia, but the core exhibition, Behind the Screen, demonstrates how movies and TV shows are produced and shown, including stations where visitors can create their own short animation, experiment with sound effects, or view the behind-the-scenes editing process of a live Mets baseball game. A wide range of films, from classic Hollywood to avant-garde works to foreign-festival hits, are generally shown weekend evenings and afternoons, and there are other special programs including film retrospectives, lectures, and workshops.
