Fodor's Expert Review Museum of Arts and Design

Upper West Side Museum/Gallery

Housed in a glass and glazed terra-cotta building on the rim of Columbus Circle, the Museum of Arts and Design celebrates joyful quirkiness and personal, sometimes even obsessive, artistic visions. The art is human-scale here, much of it neatly housed in display cases rather than hanging on walls, with a strong focus on contemporary jewelry, glass, ceramic, fiber, wood, and mixed-media works. Exit through the gift shop with its incredible housewares, jewelry, and other artful pieces unseen anywhere else. Thursday evening from 6 to 9 is pay-what-you-wish at the museum. Free docent-led tours are offered daily at 11:30 and 3.
