A delightful, affordable, country hacienda that's a 15-minute drive southeast of the Plaza, this adobe bed-and-breakfast sits amid 10 secluded acres of piñon and ponderosa pine, with grand views of the Ortiz Mountains and the area's high-desert mesas. Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront, Autograph Collection

$$$ | 102 W. Bay St., Savannah, GA, 31401, USA

Giving you easy access to the hustle and bustle of River Street, this boutique hotel is a much-needed addition to the hotel landscape—instead of the Victorian decor that's so prevalent in Savannah; a stay at the Bohemian is like settling into a gentleman's study in a regal English manse. The hotel was designed as homage to the British maritime settlers who first colonized this area in 1733, including Gen. James Oglethorpe himself. Think heavy woods studded with brass, dark tufted leather, and elaborate lighting fixtures crafted from shells and driftwood. The Bohemian's rooftop is a chic lounge with indoor and outdoor seating that has become a popular nightspot for locals; the crowd is generally 30 and under, so the scene can be rowdy. A restaurant is on the River Street level. It's a handsome place to wash up, and like Savannah's founders, you might just be persuaded to stay a while.

Pros

  • Can be booked through Marriott with points
  • Pets are allowed for a nonrefundable fee of $100
  • Location on the river offers beautiful views and convenience

Cons

  • Decor is a little over-the-top
  • The Rocks on the Roof lounge stays open late and the noise can sometimes be heard in guest rooms
  • Not very kid-friendly

The Bookhouse at Faunbrook

$$ | 699 W. Rosedale Ave., West Chester, PA, 19382, USA

The owners of the Bookhouse Hotel in Kennett Square transformed this former B&B in a handsome mid-19th-century Italianate brick house 1½ miles from downtown West Chester into a cozy retreat (with books and bookshelves throughout) that nicely mixes antiques, stylish modern furnishings, and updated bathrooms in the individually decorated rooms. Some rooms are larger than others (a couple have fireplaces), and the color schemes range from pastel hues to deeper colors; all but one (the Darlington Suite, named for the original owners) have a literary theme, like Jane's Room (for Jane Austen) and Alice's Suite (for Alice in Wonderland). The grand library and parlor rooms on the first floor provide elegant but comfortable places to relax, as do the wraparound porch and patio in the shady grounds. A refrigerator and microwave are shared by guests. Check-in and the concierge service are contactless, but the hotel team can be called or texted for assistance.

Pros

  • Gorgeous, high-ceilinged public areas on first floor
  • Romantic vibe and literary-themed rooms
  • Ideal for book lovers (books aren't for sale, though)

Cons

  • No elevator, and rooms are on second and third floor
  • The Continental breakfast is not available part of the week
  • Street noise from nearby Rte. 52 when you're on the porch or patio

Boon Hotel + Spa

$$ | 14711 Armstrong Woods Rd., Guerneville, CA, 95446, USA

Redwoods, Douglas firs, and palms supply shade and seclusion at this lushly landscaped resort ¾ mile north of downtown Guerneville. The pool and hot tub, both saline, and the on-site spa facilitate decompressing, but Main Street's bustle and dining options—including Boon Eat + Drink, under the same management—are easily accessible. The hotel provides complimentary orange bikes for rides into town, out to Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve, or over to wineries and river beaches. Most guest rooms surround the pool, but a few quieter ones lie toward the property's rear. Beyond them, and more peaceful still, are a vintage camper and, available in summer only, three tasteful tent rooms sitting atop wooden platforms.

Pros

  • Breakfast delivered to rooms
  • Saline pool and hot tub
  • Additional rooms at co-owned, LGBTQ+ friendly The Highlands nearby

Cons

  • Lacks amenities of larger properties
  • Pool rooms too close to the action for some guests

Boro Hotel

$ | 38--28 27th St., Queens, NY, 11101, USA

This industrial-chic property just two subway stops from Manhattan has spacious rooms, balconies with skyline views, and downright huge bathrooms. What's more, the high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows are features not commonly found in Manhattan, especially at such a reasonable price. Catching the sunset behind the Manhattan cityscape—from the rooftop lounge or privacy of your room—is a real highlight. The lobby lounge has a fireplace and shelves stocked with books from the Strand. The all-day restaurant, Beebe's, serves new American dishes and thin-crust pizzas. While Long Island City is rapidly changing, Its location does feel a bit isolated.

Pros

  • Sleek design
  • Fantastic views of Manhattan skyline
  • Rooftop bar with lounge chairs

Cons

  • Isolated location
  • Can be very noisy making it difficult to sleep

Boulder Station Hotel & Casino

$ | 4111 Boulder Hwy., Las Vegas, NV, 89121, USA

The story of how Station Casinos came to dominate the Las Vegas \"locals casino\" scene—and divide that dominance into regions—is exemplified by Boulder Station. It opened in early 1994, cementing what's now the Stations formula with its attached Regal movie theater, Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant, and The Broiler steak house for living-it-up occasions. The latest additions are Game On, which fuses a sports bar with the 24-hour coffee shop, and a six-outlet food court (replacing a buffet that never reopened after the pandemic). The unintended consequence of Station's corporate success is that Boulder Station is now extremely local, serving primarily the east side, and offering no real reason to cross town for those living closer to other Station properties. Some of the 299 rooms and suites have distant views of the Strip and downtown, and midweek room rates can dip well below $100.

Pros

  • Solid values throughout
  • Attached movie theater
  • Plenty of free parking

Cons

  • Restaurants duplicated at other Station properties

Built in 1860 by Council Grove's first recorded physician, and later used as apartments, its 2007 remodel added modern amenities for the ultimate private homestay. There are three guest rooms, with access to common areas—gardens, living room, dining room, den with flat-screen television and satellite channels, and backyard seating. Renting the entire house also grants use of the indoor kitchen and outdoor barbecue-grill area.
