Warwick Denver Hotel

$$$ | 1776 Grant St., Denver, CO, 80203, USA

This stylish midsize business- and family-friendly hotel is ideally located on the edge of downtown, and the spacious rooms have been updated with comfortable beds and the latest in high-tech perks to complement the brass and mahogany furnishings and roomy marble bathrooms. All rooms contain wet bars and private terraces with exceptional city views. The restaurant, Gattara ($$), sends out Italian cuisine for all three meals daily—including pizzas from the wood-fired oven—and features a reasonably priced and well-chosen wine list (not surprisingly, Italian-heavy), as well.

Pros

  • Reasonable rates
  • All rooms have private terraces with city views
  • Rare downtown outdoor swimming pool

Cons

  • More than walking distance from the business district
  • Sometimes attracts large, party-focused groups
  • Walls are thin

Westin Denver International Airport

$$$ | 8300 Peña Blvd., Denver, CO, 80249, USA
This on-site airport hotel offers impressively soundproofed accommodations, local art throughout the rooms and the hotel itself, and some of the best views of the mountains and the plains in the state. Guests can drive up to the portico at the oddly shaped building—it’s intended to resemble a bird or pilot’s wings–-to drop luggage (valet or self-park are available), or arrive by rail service from downtown Denver, with access from the ground level to the airport via escalator, bypassing the hotel, as well as direct access into the hotel via elevator for guests. The lobby sits on the 6th floor and features a cocktail lounge and spectacular panoramic views of the Rockies from Pikes Peak to Mount Evans on one side, and looks out over the rail station on the other. Rooms offer signature Westin touches—the trademarked Heavenly beds and pillows, scented candles—and oversized windows for views no matter where you’re located. The indoor pool and fitness rooms also feature noteworthy views, including the airport’s famous tented roof. There are several dining options, including the modern American-style Grill & Vine ($$), which serves three meals daily and the chic Sky Lounge ($$) for cocktails and small plates while the Eat Well and Stay Well menus in the eateries and room service target jet lag and the immune system.

Pros

  • Only hotel right at the airport
  • Stunning views
  • Soundproofing so outstanding you won't realize you're next to an airport

Cons

  • Feels rather isolated
  • Until TSA rules change, only the Westin's restaurants are accessible
  • Train periodically breaks down
