Hotel Victor

$$$ | 1144 Ocean Dr., Miami Beach, FL, 33139, USA

At the sleek Hotel Victor, guest rooms are equipped with Yabu Pushelberg–designed interiors invoking a post-century beach cabana vibe, and a sexy infinity-edge pool overlooks Ocean Drive and the beach. Guests of the southernmost of The Estate Yountville's two luxury lodgings access their rooms and suites via an olive tree–lined walkway bisected by narrow, low-slung fountains. The verdant, 22-acre resort contains restaurants, shops, and a spa. The Villagio’s streamlined furnishings, subdued color schemes, and high ceilings create a sense of spaciousness. The accommodations, all with flat-screen TVs, safes, minibars, Nespresso coffeemakers, and balconies or patios, range in size from 475 to 595 square feet, their bathrooms equipped with oversized tubs, tiled walk-in showers with rain-shower heads, or both. Hotel Warm Springs Bed and Breakfast Inn

$ | 47 Broad St., Warm Springs, GA, 31830, USA

In downtown Warm Springs, this historic hotel has plenty of character—the guest rooms have oak furniture and 12-foot ceilings with crown molding. Prices are even cheaper if you opt not to have breakfast, though this means you'll miss out on a full-service Southern breakfast with cheese grits. The Tuscawilla Soda Company off the lobby is a treat to visit—it was the town's original drugstore and soda fountain, often frequented by FDR himself. Unlike many B&Bs, children are welcome here and some rooms are even pet friendly.

Pros

Hotel Warner

$$ | 120 N. High St., West Chester, PA, 19380, USA

Sleek art deco curves on its exterior and in the hotel lobby, along with photos, survive here as the remaining pieces of the grand Warner Theatre, which filled the space where this comfortable, practical modern hotel was added on in 2012 in the heart of downtown West Chester. The good-size, traditionally furnished rooms (dark wood, carpeting, curtains with a valance, nice mattress) have fairly spacious bathrooms, and amenities include a mini-refrigerator and coffeemaker. What rooms and public areas like the breakfast room and the bar, and even the outdoor terraces, lack in style, they make up by providing convenience and in being fairly new and nicely kept. The hotel's standout feature, though, is its location, with boutiques, coffee shops, bars, and restaurants close at hand.

Pros

  • Steps from lively Gay Street dining and shopping
  • Spacious rooms with good-size bathrooms
  • Reasonably priced parking

Cons

  • Bland (though well-maintained) rooms lack the art deco flair of the exterior
  • Indoor pool is very small
  • Street noise may bother some people

Works by regional artists adorn the hallways of this three-story, downtown historic district boutique property, where the first-floor public areas include a lobby that invites lingering; a spa; and Carboni's, an Italian restaurant, bar, and grab-and-go market. All the well-lit bathrooms are equipped with rain-forest showers; a few also have claw-foot soaking tubs.

Hotel Wolf

$ | 101 E. Bridge Ave., Saratoga, WY, 82331, USA

This downtown 1893 hotel on the National Register of Historic Places is well-maintained by its proud owners, who have decorated each room differently, always maintaining the hotel's original simple Victorian charm. Note that all guest rooms are on the second and third floors, and there is no elevator. Also, some of the rooms are small, though the prices shrink with the sizes of the rooms. The fine restaurant ($$), bar, and lounge also have Victorian furnishings, including dark-green wallpaper, antique oak tables, crystal chandeliers, and lacy drapes. Prime rib and steaks are the specialties, and seafood and lamb are also on the menu. Dinner reservations are strongly recommended.

  • Family-run and friendly
  • Delicious on-site restaurant serving Western favorites

Cons

  • Steep stairs and no elevator
  • Some rooms are small, with small bathrooms

Hotel Yountville

$$$$ | 6462 Washington St., Yountville, CA, 94599, USA

The landscaped setting, resortlike pool area, and exclusive yet casual ambience of the Hotel Yountville attract travelers wanting to get away from it all yet still be close—but not too close—to fine dining and tasting rooms. The 14 stone-clad buildings here house clusters of chic rooms and suites painted in beige and brown shades with the occasional yellow or other accents. All rooms have large spa tubs, fieldstone fireplaces, and four-poster beds decked out in Italian linens. Given all the stonework, it shouldn't surprise that one of the treatments at the on-site spa involves heated stones; massages, body therapies, facials, and other skin-care regimens are also offered.

The Hotel Zamora

$$ | 3701 Gulf Blvd., FL, 33706, USA

An excellent choice for a romantic getaway, this relative newcomer offers modern rooms with a flamenco twist—you may think you've been swept away to a luxurious Spanish villa.
