Whalers Village

Fodor's choice

Chic Whalers Village has wonderful oceanfront restaurants and shops in the heart of Kaanapali. Upscale haunts include Louis Vuitton and Tourneau, and beautyphiles can get their fix at Sephora. Elegant home accessories at Martin and MacArthur and Totally Hawaiian Gift Gallery are perfect Hawaii-made souvenirs, while the many great surf and swimwear shops will prepare you for a day at the beach. Kids will fall in love with the whimsical two-story climbing structure at the lower courtyard. The outdoor mall also offers free weekly entertainment, lei-making classes, and hula lessons; check its website for a complete schedule.

Kihei Kalama Village

Encompassing more than 40 specialty shops and restaurants, this area known as "the Triangle" attracts visitors and locals alike. In addition to the brick-and-mortar establishments, there are shaded outdoor stalls selling everything from printed or hand-painted T-shirts and sundresses to jewelry, pottery, wood carvings, fruit, and gaudily painted coconut husks—some, but not all, made by local craftspeople.

Maui Mall Village

Just five minutes from the airport and across from Kahului Harbor, the Maui Mall is anchored by Longs Drugs and Whole Foods and is a haven for locals and travelers alike. Amid its casual fast-food and national-chain restaurants are local spots, including the popular Tasaka Guri Guri Shop, which has been around for over 100 years and which sells a Japanese-style sherbet confection called guri guri. The mall also has a whimsically designed 12-screen megaplex.

Queen Kaahumanu Center

Maui's largest shopping center has more than 100 stores and restaurants, a movie theater, and a food court. Its attractive rooftop, with its manta ray–like umbrella shades, is easy to spot. Stop at Camellia Seeds for what locals call "crack seed," a snack made from dried fruits, or swing by 180 Boardshop for Hawaii-based streetwear like 808 All Day or In4mation. For surf-inspired gear, visit The Foam Company and Shapers. Other stops include Macy's, PacSun, Bath & Body Works, and American Eagle Outfitters. In addition to its retail-therapy offerings, the mall hosts a creative, monthly lineup of events, including a farmers' market, concerts, and car shows.

The Shops at Wailea

Stylish, upscale, and close to most of the resorts, this mall brings high fashion to Wailea. Luxury brands such as Gucci, Cos Bar, and Tiffany & Co. are represented, as are less expensive chains like Billabong, Lululemon, and Tommy Bahama. Daily events include lei making, ukulele lessons, and hula performances. If you're peckish, grab some elevated pub food at Pint & Cork, island-style fare at Tommy Bahama Restaurant and Pub, or takeaway from Island Gourmet Markets, which also sells grocery essentials and locally made food products

Wailea Gateway Center

Located at the top of Wailea, this center is comprised of commercial offices and a handful of fantastic dining options. Although lunch at chef Peter Merriman's Monkeypod is reason enough to venture here, you might also be enticed by eateries including Pita Paradise, Oao Sushi Bar, and the Market Maui.
