Jaws Country Store

Fodor's choice

You wouldn’t guess from the exterior and the name, but this North Shore store is much closer to a boutique than a country store. Full of branded merch, gifts, sunscreen, and other body products, it’s a great place to shop for souvenirs. You can also find drinks, snacks, baked goods, and a small kombucha bar, making it a nice stop before heading out on the Road to Hana. The store also has a small cafe featuring wood-fired pizzas and empanadas.

Hasegawa General Store

Built in 1910, this filled-to-the-rafters Hana institution isn't fancy, but it's one of Maui's oldest family-run businesses and it offers one-stop shopping. Be sure to check out the bulletin board for information on local events.

Honolua Store

In contrast to Kapalua's many high-end retailers, the old Honolua Store still plies the groceries and household goods it did in plantation times. Maui Swap Meet

Crafts, T-shirts, fresh produce and flowers, and souvenirs that range from authentic to average make this enormous flea market—operating since 1981—the island's biggest bargain. Vendors selling Maui-made food items or freshly cracked coconuts can be found next to the food trucks serving fresh, affordable, authentic local food.

Maui Tropix

For more than 20 years, surfers and other locals have come here to shop for surfboards, clothing, hats, and accessories. Whether you're planning to hit the waves or just looking for something to wear while lounging in the sun, you'll find everything you need here. In addition, they are the only retailer on Maui that carries the Maui Built brand.

Minit Stop Kahului

This store and gas station is a Maui staple, the first stop before a day at the beach or on a road trip. In addition to convenience items and Hawaiian-made snacks, it has some of the island's best fast food, featuring local-style plate lunches, deli items, and its famous fried chicken and potato wedges. There are eight locations across Maui.

Nahiku Marketplace

This hub of activity is at mile marker 29, about six miles before you reach Hana. Here you can buy some coconut candy or peruse the small gift shop selling jewelry and trinkets, and other souvenirs. Queen Kaahumanu Center

Maui's largest shopping center has more than 100 stores and restaurants, a movie theater, and a food court. Its attractive rooftop, with its manta ray–like umbrella shades, is easy to spot. Stop at Camellia Seeds for what locals call "crack seed," a snack made from dried fruits, or swing by 180 Boardshop for Hawaii-based streetwear like 808 All Day or In4mation. For surf-inspired gear, visit The Foam Company and Shapers. Other stops include Macy's, PacSun, Bath & Body Works, and American Eagle Outfitters. In addition to its retail-therapy offerings, the mall hosts a creative, monthly lineup of events, including a farmers' market, concerts, and car shows.

Rainbow Mall

Condo guests can do some one-stop shopping at this mall—it offers a barbershop; a hair and nail salon; boutiques that sell clothing, Hawaiian gifts, and local art; plate lunch and other eateries; snorkel rental shop; and a liquor store.

Safeway

After the wildfires, this was one of the only major grocery stores on the west side of the island, sitting just outside of the burn zone. It offers an array of national and local brands, a deli, and a very impressive beer, liquor, and wine selection, including many local options. Safeway is a member of the Randall's, Albertson's, Tom Thumb, etc. family, and with Hawaii grocery prices you'll want to use your membership discounts as much as possible. The grocery chain has four stores on the island.
