Fodor's Expert Review Black American West Museum and Heritage Center

LoDo and RiNo Fodor's Choice

Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.

The revealing documents and artifacts here depict the vast contributions that Black Americans made to opening up the West. Nearly a third of the cowboys and many pioneer teachers and doctors were Black. One floor is devoted to Black cowboys; another to military troops, including the Buffalo Soldiers. Changing exhibits focus on topics such as the history of Black churches in the West.
