Best Western Paint Pony Lodge
Spacious rooms have wood accents and picture windows overlooking the pine-studded high country. Suites and some rooms include fireplaces, and use of an off-property gym is free for guests.
Most places supply clean rooms without many frills. These aren’t the world-class resorts and spas of Phoenix, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. "Resort" in this area means you’ll probably have a room with a kitchenette and occasional (but not daily) maid service in a picturesque, woodsy setting. Plan on bringing your own toiletries and the like (there’s a reason some of these prices are so affordable).

Larger rooms and more conveniences than much of its competition make for a comfortable night's rest. Feel like working out? Check out the cardio equipment, and cool off with a complimentary bottle of water and a dip in the indoor pool.
Stuffed high-country animals atop a mountain of boulders welcome you to Hon-Dah, operated by the White Mountain Apache Tribe (the name means "Welcome to my home" in Apache). The main draw is the casino, with hundreds of slot machines, live poker and blackjack, and live entertainment on weekends. Large guest rooms all have coffeemakers and wet bars, and offer comfortable but not luxurious accommodations. A high-roofed atrium holds the pool and hot tub. The Indian Pine Restaurant serves three buffet meals daily, and a small gift shop sells local Apache crafts.
Homey decorating and large rooms help this independent, not-so-typical two-story motel stand out. Well-stocked rooms with microwaves and coffeemakers include four-poster beds.
Catering to those who want to be as close as possible to the lifts, this hotel has comfortable rooms with ski racks and runs a shuttle to the slopes every half hour. In summer you can enjoy boating on Sunrise Lake, scenic chairlift rides, and mountain biking on designated trails. Note that the lodge closes twice a year during the shoulder seasons (the end of ski season until Memorial Day weekend and mid-October until the first heavy snowfall).
On the National Register of Historic Places, the iconic Wigwam consists of 15 bright-white concrete teepees. As you might expect, wigwams are phoneless; however, they do have cable TV. A small lobby museum exhibits Mexican, Native American, and military relics collected by the owner's family. All the classic cars parked by the teepees also belong to the owners.
