Perched high above the village and the ocean, every window (and there are many) in this modern property affords a spectacular view and eliminates any need for air-conditioning. Each spacious room has a fireplace, mini-refrigerator, coffeemaker, and a four-piece bathroom with a double-whirlpool tub. 

Within easy walking distance of the main attractions in downtown St. Andrews, this wonderful country inn was originally built in the 1840s by the Pheasant family, and the current owners have carefully renovated the property to preserve its historic authenticity. John Turner, who went on to become prime minister of Canada, worked here in his youth. The Rose Garden Dining Room attracts locals and guests.

With stunning coastal views from their windows and front porches, and enough beds for four people, these log cottages (in spite of the singular name, there are five of them) offer great value. The accommodations are spotless and thoughtfully designed, and each has an open-plan living area with an eat-in kitchen and sitting room with satellite TV, and a full bathroom.

This mansion with a large deck sits on a hill with lovely views over the harbor; built by a sea captain, the home on 10 acres of grounds has been an inn since 1871. Many of its original furnishings have been retained in the guest rooms, and refurbishment has been mindful of the inn's history and character. Large black-and-white photos grace the living room, and there's a large deck. Seafood is served in the dining room, and guests can request packed lunches. There's also a guest kitchen and laundry.

Right on the water, next to the fishermen's wharf in the heart of the bustling village, this long-established inn also has a very good restaurant. Each of the rooms has an individual, restful, if somewhat dated style, while the suites have a veranda, private entrance, and 8-foot windows facing the bay. In the Tides Restaurant, the menu offers dishes such as scallops flambéed with Sambuca, bacon, and cream, lobster-stuffed chicken, and hickory-smoked ribs. A wall of windows overlooks the water, interrupted only by the hummingbirds that buzz around feeders attached to the glass.

Surrounded by 87 acres at the base of Chamcook Mountain, this inn is renowned for hospitality and outstanding food and is particularly convenient for visiting Ministers Island. Rooms are very comfortable and restful, with pillow-top mattresses, down comforters, pleasing color schemes, and individual temperature controls. Some are furnished with antiques. In the handsome dining room, with crystal chandeliers and dark mahogany furniture, you can enjoy fine dining (reservations essential) featuring local seafood and produce (much of it plucked from the inn's organic garden minutes before the meal).

High on a hill overlooking the Bay of Fundy, the appeal of this restored sea captain's home comes from both its Victorian interiors, including antiques, quilts, and old-fashioned wallpaper, and the accomplished cuisine. The adjacent carriage house has four rooms, and guests with children are welcome to stay here, though not in the main inn. Formal dinners in the on-site restaurant are excellent, and Coquilles St. Martins, a rich medley of lobster, scallops, shrimp, and crab in a creamy wine sauce, is the house specialty.

This is one of the best locations in town, with gardens stretching to the water's edge and the harbor just two short blocks away. Built by a ship's chandler in about 1820, the property has been faithfully restored and furnished to reflect the era. All the rooms are lovely, and five have balconies overlooking the bay. Rooms 5 and 6 have kitchenettes and Jacuzzi tubs. A recent addition to the inn is St. Croix Olive—a tasting room and shop for an international array of olive oils and more than two dozen balsamic vinegars.

Set in acres of gardens, this pretty inn offers a calm stay in antique-filled rooms, with attentive hosts going above and beyond to ensure your stay is wonderful. There's a mix of standard rooms and suites and a honeymoon suite with a Jacuzzi tub. Breakfasts are exceptional, with eggs laid fresh by the inn's hens out back.
