For locals and visitors, Granville Island is one of Vancouver's most popular destinations but unless you've moored up in a houseboat, the only overnight option is the Granville Island Hotel, a waterfront building that's part Mission style, part industrial, but the result is modern and sophisticated. But because the island is so popular, you're better off leaving the car behind.

Floor-to-ceiling windows fill the spacious guest rooms with natural light—and if you slide open the bathroom's half wall you can enjoy the views from the soaker tub. Ask for an upgrade upon arrival, and you might get a corner room with two walls of windows for fabulous views, or a one-bedroom suite. Although centrally located, the hotel is on a side street, so it's much quieter than its Downtown counterparts. There's a state-of-the-art gym and free bicycles to explore the city, as well as a London-style taxi. (The cabbie provides drop off/pick up services Downtown.) The hotel's Tableau Bar Bistro, serving French-influenced west coast cuisine, is a great spot, too.

"The Met," as the locals call it, is one of the city's top business district hotels, with design elements that follow the principles of feng shui—from the two lions guarding the entrance to the spacious, luxurious rooms and suites (renovated in 2024). A quality hotel with large rooms, the pet-friendly Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront is a good base for exploring Downtown by foot, bicycle, or car. Op art decor makes for colorful rooms, which have either Juliet or full-size glassed-in balconies with city or (in the more expensive rooms) partial water and mountain views. (FYI, the higher the floor, the better the view.) With an indoor pool, a health club, and complimentary use of hotel bikes, guests will appreciate the amenities and the practical location (it's near the Vancouver Convention Centre, business district, and Stanley Park). The reception is at the top of a marble staircase, so it means a) tipping for bellhop assistance, b) taking the slow-as-molasses elevator, or c) lugging your own bags.

Opened in 2019 in the pedestrian-friendly Shipyards District, the Seaside is near everything on the North Shore, and is just a Seabus ride away from Vancouver's city center. Cool blues and grays, reclaimed wood walls, and heated bathroom floors, with soaker tubs in some suites, create a serene spa-like feel. Rooms are large—especially the corner suites. Provisions, the on-site restaurant and lounge, is a good choice for Pacific Northwest fare. But there are plenty of other dining choices within walking distance.

The best views are above the 14th floor or in one of the corner rooms with two walls of glass. Rooms are chic and spacious, with exceptionally comfortable beds and original (often local) artwork.
