Fodor's Expert Review Museo Acuario de las Californias

The former governor's mansion is gradually being transformed into an aquarium called Museo Acuario de las Californias, on the road to Pichilingue. Featuring the marine life in the Sea of Cortez, the tanks containing lobster, corals, and rays are located inside the building, while the exterior has ponds and waterfalls. The house faces a coral reef; plans in the works include snorkeling programs and educational workshops. The facility has been a work in progress in recent years; expansion is still ongoing and likely will be for the near future. (Funds have materialized slowly.) No matter: an enthusiastic cadre of volunteers is happy to show you around what is in operation.
