Why We Like It

Grand Solmar separates itself in two ways: location and legacy. It is the only resort on the half-mile Land’s End headland that marks the southern terminus of the Baja California peninsula, boasting a spectacular beachside setting between Cerro del Vigía and the Pacific Ocean. Solmar Group founder Don Luis Bulnes Molleda, meanwhile, was a hugely important figure in the transition of Cabo San Lucas from commercial fishing town to international tourist destination.

Fodor's Expert Review

With luxury villas situated between cliff and sea, this property is the closest to the famed landmark, El Arco, that you will sleep. Architecture melds perfectly with natural surroundings as subterranean stone passages open to infinity pools framed by cactus gardens and raked sand. The staff is outstanding and the service rivals that of Cabo’s top resorts despite the fact that it's also a time-share. Villas have ocean views, modern kitchens, marble floors, king beds (plus a Murphy bed), and dining areas that lead to balconies where you can watch skim boarders hit the waves. Weekly theme nights at the three restaurants keep the menu exciting, and cooking classes are hosted by La Roca’s Executive Chef, Hector Lucas. On-site are tennis courts, mini-golf, a kids’ club, grocery store, and spa.

Tip For ultimate privacy, request a room in Building “I” closest to Land’s End; there is also an adult’s pool here that is seldom visited.

Room

The design style for the immaculately appointed rooms is an attractive mix of vintage and contemporary, spotlighting both Mexican and colonial Spanish influences. Marble floors provide an additional touch of elegance, upscale kitchen and dining areas are standard amenities, and the terrace views are absolutely stunning.

Tip Artfully hidden pull-down Murphy beds add additional sleeping capacity to many rooms.

Bathroom

All bathrooms at Grand Solmar feature granite countertops, double sinks, and enormous walk-in showers.

Lobby

Spanish style chandeliers light the gorgeous lobby rotunda, while a nearby colonail style fountain offers an introduction to the resort’s use of water (fountains, waterfalls, infinity pools) as both aesthetic medium and relaxation technique.

Pool

Grand Solmar offers eight expansive pools, four of which are infinity pools featuring breathtaking vantages of crashing Pacific Ocean waves. Guests are welcome in any of the pools, although age restrictions apply in the dedicated areas for adults and children.

Tip Many resorts in Los Cabos offer swim-up bars. Grand Solmar may be the only one to offer swim-up restaurant service.

Spa

Beachside cabañas offer a serene setting for pampering spa treatments, from massages to romantic moonlit experiences for visiting couples. An on-site beauty salon offers manis, pedis, and more.

Tip Want to try something new? Try the Temazcal treatment at the neighboring Playa Grande Spa, a sweat lodge style therapy that dates to the days of the Mexica (or as English speakers know them, the Aztecs).

Gym

Spacious fitness facilities offers a variety of state-of-the-art equipment, as well as daily classes showcasing everything from beach yoga to luxury boot camps, CrossFit to cardio Thai boxing.

Dining

The names came easy for Grand Solmar’s collection of on-site restaurants: Las Brisas snack bar was named for the gentle tropical breezes at Land’s End; pool bar and restaurant Las Olas was named for the crashing waves nearby; steak and seafood specialist La Roca was named for the ancient granite rocks integrated into the design of the beachfront property; and fine dining destination Don Luis was named in honor of the resort’s founder.

Drinking

Stop by the Sports Bar to watch the latest games while enjoying craft beers and comfort food; or swim up for fruity cocktails or fresh ice at one of three pool bars.
